All good points.

Yeah, I do, but I know some of you love their 2nd division Morbid Angel shtick.

With a lot of differences including but not limited to extended ambient sections, ridiculously weird/echo-y solos, and different lyrics.

Very few may agree with me but after so many listens I consider

Cadaver-In Pains the most fascinating death metal output of the 90's.

It takes a while to develop a taste for it due to its overall weirdness, but I don't think there are many death metal albums which possess the addictive quality and amazing longeivity of "In Pains"

To round it up to 5
Albums I find equally brilliant:

Necrophobic-The Nocturnal Silence
Phlebotomized-Immense Intense Suspense
Gorguts-Obscura
Atheist-Unquestionable Presence

Btw I'm new here:headbang:

they have notable bm influence, but they're firmly on the death side of things, at least where the nocturnal silence is concerned

Judging by your first post you should be a welcome addition.

they are blackened death, that's how I would categorize them anyway.

There are some albums that are such blackened death metal you could mistake them for being black metal.

Sentenced 'north from here' for example. This album is so kvlt and no one realizes it.

The Nocturnal Silence is clearly death metal, as is In The Forest Of The Dreaming Dead. Despite what the Greys may think

I'm going to defy you and insist that Unanimated is a black metal band. The band is not swedish death metal or a regular death metal band, if not black metal melodic death metal.

that term's been totally bastardised by a number of people and it makes me cringe nowadays, but it's pretty accurate in all fairness

Well to be entirely fair Cadaver are also quite dodgy in that respect. Is In Pains more BM thand DM? Kinda difficult to say
