Actually, I find it absolutely incredible that Soulside Journey gets so much stick - I'm guessing these people don't like European death metal (the best kind) in general.

point taken re: opeth being left out (although i think it is stupid) BUT opeth is not prog metal (i hardly think prog is its own genre, but thats another argument). opeth IS DEATH METAL. as is Brave Murder Day. something other than "come on" would need to be said, to convince me otherwise.

hooray @ TRITSIO.

Opeth are not death metal, I had recently listened to their entire disco. and while there are death metal riffs and death metal vocals the band is prog. not prog. death, not death, not melodic death, but Progressive metal.

They're not prog death. They have very little in the way of death metal elements (early stuff is much closer but really not even there)...

quit talking about that shitstain of a band and start talking about real death metal please. dont fag up the thread.

Mental Funeral needs to be mentioned, so here's me mentioning it.

infecting this forum? jesus man, ive been infecting this forum for years.

i always play nice as long as people dont fag up good threads

J what is Autopsy like? I've been thinking of looking into them.

im really only familiar with Mental Funeral, which is slow, sludgy and nearly flawless. they mix tempos, going from fast to almost doom-like kinda like winter and obituary at times. it really is quite an ugly record...perfectly ugly

So, would Incantation be a good comparison? I know they use a lot of really slow tempos as well.

I know I'm not J., but I'd compare them to Obituary, maybe.
