I only have one album, so they're just pretty cool for now. Once I get a few more by them, they'll be fucking awesome. ;)

Out of these:
=1. Demilich - Nespithe
=1. At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours
2. Incantation - Onward to Golgotha
3. Amorphis - The Karelian Isthmus
4. Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
5. Darkthrone - Soulside Journey

The Chasm and Fleshcrawl would be placed higher than Incantation at the very least though, and Atrocity, Therion, God Macabre, Necrophobic, Séance, Molested and co. were also better than over half the albums on that list at their peaks.

Fleshcrawl's peak is descend into absurd. It's a great album but still not better than any cd on the list. I never found seance to be all that great(their second album was cool).

The firstfour incantation are some of my favorite so i'm going to disagree with fleshcrawl that has one good album being better. Did Fleshcrawl even really have a peak.

I did mean that specific Fleshcrawl album, Incantation have more strength in depth of course (Diabolical Conquest is arguably as good as Onward to Golgotha). Seance's second album was better than cool, methinks.

final holocaust was released in 89 (killer album though).

how are brave murder day and opeth NOT death metal? just because they are somewhat melodic, doesnt make them NOT death metal.

*edit* also i agree with fleshcrawl - descend into the absurd is godly.

God Macabre 'the winterlong' is great but would some of you have put it over say like an everflowing stream or left hand path, even where no life dwells.

What about Carnage 'dark recollections'.

Opeth are NOT death metal because their core is prog. metal.

The Winterlong is easily better than Left Hand Path, and I'd say is about equal with LAEFS an NLD.

I hate labelling them death metal and I guess you could label them melodic death or gothenburg death, but it's still not real death.

This poll is still based on death metal purity albums wise. That's what I hoped and thought it would obviously be.

katatonia 'brave murder day'..... come on.

don't get me wrong it is a good album.

1. Carcass 'necroticism'
2. At The Gates 'the red in the sky is ours'

When someone askes for death metal recomendations here you have to say this. ALL OF YOU!!!

... and if someone can't get into death metal it's your fucking faults!

hmm there are too many to mention, suffocation - effigy of the forgotten or cryptopsy - blasphemy made flesh

Actually Impurity is their best album

Carnages album is more influential than good in and of itself. I've always found it pretty dull, and I like Amott and Dismember.
