Best ending song (Opeth or otherwise)

At the gates-The flames of the end
The perfect soundtrack for a suicide attempt.......
Pure depressing music.....
The rest of "Slaughter of the soul" is really depressive without having any really depressing riffs or sth....... The lyrics and the way Tompa sings-screams are enough to tear your heart out.......
and after all this "The flames of the end" comes to relieve you.....

Very very true. I haven't listened to the album in years and couldn't remember it. But I have to agree.

"To Bid You Farewell" and "Epilogue" would have to be my favourite album closers overall, with my Opeth bias, but high regards also go to:

"Thing Beyond Things (Bonus Track)" from Ocean Machine by Devin Townsend
"The Chrome Plated Megaphone of Destiny" from We're Only in it for the Money by Frank Zappa
"Muffin Man" from Bongo Fury by Frank Zappa
"Paled Empty Sphere" from Hypocrisy's self-titled
"Noisy Pink Bubbles" from Infinity by Devin Townsend
"Hurt" from The Downward Spiral by NIN
and "The Long and Winding Road" makes a great closing track, although I can't remember if it was the last track on "Let it Be" or not (It's the last track on the 1967-1970 set, so...).

I'm gonna keep this alive by adding Sgt. Pepper. "A Day in the Life" is an incredible song, one of my favourite Beatles tracks. It's a good song to have before the random noise they threw on the end (including 15khz tone to annoy your dog)...

Probably White Cluster, or Leper Affinity.. I absolutely love the Piano ending in leper affinity.. So fucking moving/touching.. i almost start to cry when im in the right mood, listening to this..

Rocket Queen (GN'R)
One In A Million (GN'R)
To Bid You Farewell (Opeth)
Epilogue (Opeth)
Magic And Mayhem (Amorphis)
My Kantele [acoustic reprise] (Amorphis)
Black God (My Dying Bride)
Eclipse (Pink Floyd)
The Masquerader and Phoenix (Theatre of Tragedy)
Silent Pain (The Sins Of Thy Beloved)
Crimson (Edge Of Sanity)
Full Moon Madness (Moonspell)
Let It Be Captured (Danzig)
The Outlaw Torn (Metallica)

I thought the question was what songs ends an album in the best way, not which songs had the best endings in themselves, but that must be what people are answering here (at least some) ;)

1. Nevermore - Politics of Ecstasy - The learning
2. Sentenced - Frozen - Mourn
3. In flames - Whoracle - Whoracle
4. Metallica - Ride the lightning - Call of Ktulu
5. Death - Individual thought patterns - The philosopher

2 more

Dissection (Somberlain) - Feathers fell
Dissection (Storm of the light's bane) - No dreams breed in breathless sleep

I'd add the following:
For my fallen Angel (MDB)
The Mind's I (Dark Tranquillity)
Alone (Of Chaos-DT)
Mine is the grandeur...
...of melancholy burning (DT)
Whoracle (In Flames)
Dead God in me (IF)
Call of Ktulu (Tallica)
Ashes in your mouth (Deth), maybe FFF too?
Hallowed be thy name (Maiden)
Rime of the ancient Mariner (Maiden)
Alexander the Great (on the merits of the solo ALONE)
Okay, Mother Russia, Fear of the Dark and Only the Good die young could be there too...
P.S. Let it be captured is not the last song; 66 Invocation is. Ashes instead?
Depression Unrest (Kreator)

Emperor - In The Nightside Eclispe - I Am The Black Wizards
This song kicks so much ass, it overrides Inno A Satana as the last song.:D

Emperor - Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk - The Wanderer
Even though there is a bunch of bonus material added on.

Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss - Seasons In The Abyss
Yeah, I still like some Slayer.

Arcturus - Aspera Heims Symfonia - Naar Kulda Tar (Frostnettenes Prolog)
Not many people know the name of this song, since its sort of hidden.:headbang:

Hannibal (Soundtrack) - Vide Cor Meum
Great song from the movie Hannibal; many other great tracks (Virtue, The Burning Heart).
