Best frontmen!

I have to mention Fear Of God-vocalist :worship: Dawn Crosby :worship: (R.I.P.). Unfortunately, I´ve never seen her live myself, but from a live recording (for a Dutch metal radio programme) of the Fear Of God gig at the Aardschokdagfestival ´92 and from a bootleg-video of the Fear Of God gig in Gent in ´92 I can tell that she was an impressive frontwoman.

I'm not sure what she was like live... but God knows she was the in the top two women rock singers of all time. Second only to Wendy O Williams, and it may even be a tie for first place at that!!! Fear Of God is one of the most under rated bands in metal, and God rest her weary soul, she fought tooth and nail to overcome her addictions, but sometimes the fight just isn't enough... sometimes you need a little luck too. Fear Of God had no luck at all. I was actually friends with a few guys that played in Fear Of God briefly. Doug Sylvia - Drummer, Shannon Larkin - Drummer, Jay Abbene - Guitar.

I don´t know if this of any interest to you (or maybe you already know this), but the guy who runs the official Fear Of God-website (www.fear-of-god.com), has done a compilation-CD titled "Treasure Trove" which you can order from him. It contains the five live songs from the Aardschokdagfestival 1992 which were aired on a Dutch metal radio programme (I think it was called "Varas Vuurwerk"), the final Fear Of God-demo "Killing The Pain" from 1995, the Allies-demo from 1983 (sounds rather mellow compared to Détente and Fear Of God) and some Fear Of God rehearsal-songs from late 1991 which never got released. Unfortunately, the sound quality of the demo- and rehearsal-recordings is very bad, whereas the sound of the live-recording is quite good (probably because it was a radio-recording). Especially the live-version of "All That Remains" is interesting, because it features some additional parts which make it sound much more aggressive compared to the album version. And on the live-version of this song, Dawn actually sings the complete lyrics which were printed in the CD-booklet of "Within The Veil". (On the album version of "All That Remains", some parts of the lyrics which are printed in the CD-booklet are left out - maybe because the really aggressive parts were sort of cut out.)

Damned Shannon played with everyone. I didn't know Jay played with them as well, but I'm not up to my Wrathchild America Biography.

Thanks for the info Burkhard... I'm gonna check into this! Just for the record I'm actually lean more towards the Detente over the Fear Of God... I think that's just the old school hardcore punk coming out in me.

The two of them played with FOG for one tour, just as hired guns. They never actually played on any recordings that I know of... they did this more as a friend thing than a career thing. They had known Dawn from FOG since the old days when she was in Detente with a guy we grew up with named Rob Michaels, who was initially in a local band called Have Mercy. I just recntly read that Brad Divens from Wrathchild America also did a small stint filling in for FOG on bass as well, that's even news to me!

Looks like I'm not the only "really old git" on this board then.

Best I've seen (no order):

Bon Scott - AC/DC (RIP)
Robert Plant - Led Zeppelin
Phil Lynott - Thin Lizzy (RIP)
Gary Holton - Heavy Metal Kids (RIP)
Ian Gillan - Deep Purple
Johnny Rotten - Sex Pistols
Brian Connolly - Sweet (RIP)
Lemmy - Motorhead
Deathmaster - Doomsword
David Lee Roth - Van Halen
Klaus Meine - Scorpions
Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden
Rob Halford - Judas Priest
Eric Adams - Manowar
Steve Tyler - Aerosmith
Angry Anderson - Rose Tattoo

Ladies:
Doro Pesch - Warlock
Lita Ford

Ozzy (Back Sabbath) and Brian Johnson (AC/DC) were the two biggest letdowns.

David Coverdale
Rob Halford
Ripper Owens
Andy Pyke
John Sykes
Graham Bonnet
Blazt Bayley
Ronnie James Dio
Paul Di'anno
Chris Boltendhal

Shit like that.

:) Overkill is truely one of the best and the nice thing about them is (I'm not rich either) they never charge big prices for tickets over here and that is great they are a real class act!
Yeah, OVERKILL ticket prices in the US are extremely cheap. Lots of the times I saw them I only paid 5 to 8 dollars. Unfortunately concerts in Europe are expensive. To go see a show you pay at least 15 to 25 dollars. Probably the reason there are so many festivals offered.

Ronnie James Dio
Bruce Dickinson
Ann Wilson
Geoff Tate
James Labrie
Bobbie"Blitz"Ellsworth
Eric A.K.-Flotsam and Jetsam

Best female front"man" I ever saw was Wendy O Williams, at that time still singing with the Plasmatics. Man , that was quit an intense show !!! Cronos from Venom impressed me in the 80's. Dee from Twisted Sister is very cool. other's I can quickly think of; David L Roth, Halford, Ozzy, Dickinson, ya know, the famous guys....

Looks like Ronnie Dio made a bunch of people's list on this thread. Good pick too. Whether Ronnie was singing in a stadium with 50,00 people or a large club with several hundred, he always made me feel like he was singing to "me." Ronnie is "the voice of metal" to me and when he finally puts the mic back on the stand for the last time, it will be a dark day for metal. Long live Dio !!
