Best of 2009 that Was, Is, and Shall Be

The new Blut Aus Nord is good and all, but I'd be pretty sad if that was actually one of the top 10 albums to come out this year. I don't think merely being good and improving upon the last few albums should warrant such a huge amount of praise.

Well I'll agree it's not an instant classic but metal doesn't really get a whole lot of those any more so...yea it's definitely a top 10.

Neither Memoria Vetusta II nor Absu will make it to my year's end list, I can guarantee that. And one of them is already bumped off since I finally got around to spinning the new Embrace of Thorns.

I said at best. I'd be inclined to not go so high myself. More like a 7 for me, as after listening to it about 5 times, I can only recall one riff. I expect much, much better out of something that's supposed to be top 10 material.

What good are the opinions here if mediocre material gets such high status just because it's popular?

I want to mention
Awaiting the Autopsy - Couldnt Tell the Bodies Apart

Insanely good brutal death metal that came from seemingly no where.

I also cant find a single thing interesting about Obscura (band)

AtA will be on my top 10 almost guaranteed. As well as Devourment, possibly Human Rejection, I'm guessing Vulvectomy.

Archgoat, Altar of Plagues, Teitanblood and Austere are pretty close to guaranteed.. Throne of Katarsis and Katharsis have a shot, but I'm still waiting for some better BM releases...

the new embrace of thorns is fucking amazing bestial death metal. "for i see death in their eyes" is decent but in no way as good as this. Does not get boring for one second, there has been a shit load of good death metal this year but this album stands out.

The albums ive been listening most to and enjoyed the most in random order:

Absu - s\t
Anaal Nathrakh - In The Constellation Of The Black Widow
The Morningside - Moving Crosscurrent of Time [Demo]
Enslavement of Beauty - The Perdition EP
Cannibal Corpse - Evisceration Plague
Obscura - Cosmogenesis
Eternal Tears of Sorrow - Children of the Dark Waters
Hatesphere - To the Nines
Amesoeurs - s\t
CKY - Carver City
Old Man's Child - Slaves of the World
Devin Townsend - Ki
Pathology - Age of Onset
Riverside - Anno Domini High Definition
Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings
Azarath - Praise The Beast
Nahemah - A New Constellation
Tyrann - Shadows of Leng

I hope to gods Aborym puts one out this year. I don't have high hopes for the new Borknagar, but you never know with these promised "back-to-the-roots" efforts.

By the end of the year my top 10 is going to be really fucking hard to get right. Theres still bands like Necros Christos, Zemial, Agatus, Drudkh, Destroyer 666, Countess, Revelation, Gates of Slumber, Slugathor, Ignivomous, Blasphemophagher, Miasmal, Profanatica, and Ares Kingdom that have albums out this year. i'm prob missing a lot but all i can think of for now.
