I've been waiting for somebody else to post this thread, and it's either because i'm really lazy or because i didn't realize there was already a thread like this, but its about time i say this:

What are THE best Prog Metal Concept Albums?

I ask this question with 2 categories in mind:
A) Musically (Instruments, Vox, etc.)
B) Story/ Plot
C) Originality
D) Truth (If its based on anything, how true it stays to the story)

I can't say my multiple favorites, because they are all equally amazing, but the one that sticks out the most to me is "V" by none other than Symohony X as we all know. Its just an amazing album, with the music, the story, and the other things that are amazing about concept albums. Also, it was my first Prog Metal album I ever bought so theres sentimentality in there.

Besides V, let's see...

Ayreon: Either The Human Equation or The Electric Castle. Universal Migrator is also good, and The Final Experiment good for a first attempt--but the award goes to the first two.

Blind Guardian: I'm not sure if I can actually put this because they're not technically prog, but Nightfall in Middle-Earth does get close to being prog.

Opeth: My Arms, Your Hearse. That one is my favorite, but Still Life also is up there.

Rick Wright: Broken China. (This is the keyboardist of Pink Floyd)

The best progressive concept albums:

1. Dream Theater - Metropolis pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory
2. Symphony X - V: The New Mythology Suite
3. Shadow Gallery - Tyranny
4. Shadow Gallery - Room V
5. Ayreon - The Human Equation
6. All of the other Ayreon releases except Actual Fantasy
7. Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
8. Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth

edit:
9. Kamelot - Epica
10. Kamelot - The Black Halo

Pink Floyd - The Wall
Dream Theater: Scenes From a Memory
Camel: The Snow Goose, Harbour of Tears
Ayreon: Into the Electric Castle, The Human Equation
Queensrÿche: Operation Mindcrime
Opeth: Still Life, My Arms Your Hearse and maybe Orchid too
Angra: Temple of Shadows
Pain of Salvation: Entropia, One Hour by the Concrete Lake, The PErfect Element, Remedy Lane, Be
Porcupine Tree: Deadwing
Orphaned Land: Mabool

And if you consider Sgt. Peppers lonely Hearts Club Band a concept album it goes too

anyway, thats all I culd think right now

That's a great list, I have to agree with you totally. :D

Iron Maiden - "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son"
Symphony X - "V(The New Mythology Suite)"
Dream Theater - "Scenes From A Memory"
Queensryche - "Operation: Mindcrime"
Ayreon - "The Universal Migrator", "Into The Electric Castle"
Camel - "The Snow Goose"
Genesis - "Selling England By The Pound", "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway"
Labyrinth - "Return To Heaven Denied"
Bruce Dickinson - "The Chemical Wedding"
Steve Hackett - "Voyage Of The Acolyte"

I think so far every decade has had the definitive concept album, so far...

70's= Pink Floyd-The Wall
80's= Queensryche-Operation:Mindcrime
90's= DT-Scenes from a Memory

I don't think the one for this one has really come yet. Don't get me one there have been some incredible ones all the PoS (for this decade), SX, Ayreon-The Human Equation and many more. I think there have been so many concept albums though lately..pretty much every metal band (prog, power, and a good deal of Death and Black) will atleast have one by the end of the decade so it's hard to judge what will be the great album of this decade.

Seventh son of a seventh son is the best album of all time. Theres nothing wrong with it, at all. Not prog though obviously, although prog influenced.

I think evergreys 'the inner circle' is a great concept album, but I think I'm in the minority there. In search of truth is great aswell.
