That would make sense if what he said was "Looking fucking cool is far more important than actually knowing shit about metal." Looking metal doesn't make you more metal on the inside, it just makes you more stylish, which is worthwhile in its own right.

Sacrificing comfort in order to look cool at metal concerts is for people who care too much about image. Those people are always poseurs who care about what others think about how they look because they want to seem cool in front of others.

Having the confidence not to care about receiving big ups from your bros (read: people you only see at concerts) is something that all metalheads should strive for, rather than trying to make a big splash in the metal fashion world. Don't be like Gaahl.

Except it's not specifically a metal thing, it's about style in general. Sometimes that means sacrificing comfort, unless you think going out in sweat pants is a sound fashion choice.
 
Sorry to disappoint, but none of the stuff posted here lines up with my fashion choices. People who wear leggings in public are especially gross.
