Car Speakers

nice, i think that set will sound sweet and you can always take them with you to the next car.

Play with the fader also when you install them as the front highs might overpower the rears.

so when are you coming down to NY to demo them?

i can get them 6x9's for just under $100 from some suppliers on Amazon. No idea if I should spend the extra $70 @ crutchfield or not. whacha think?

And shit yeah, we really do need to arrange some kind of gathering in NY. Fridays work but Saturdays are best.

i love Crutchfield but they sell at retail ... i would go the cheaper route, try eBay as well with this type of stuff.

nice score :kickass:

car speakers ... well speakers in general have the highest margins in audio ... usually about 50-70%

well the front ones are in. but i need to run the 6x9's through an amp. so that will get done next wekeend when i buy my friend's 4channel alpine amp. fuck. he also has a kicker L7 12" sub already in a nice box with a 2channel amp. the kicker is $400 by itself w/o a box, and he is willing to sell both amps plus the kicker 12" sub for a mere $500. So tempting but I dont need all that.

So, are Pioneer speakers ok? I have a Pioneer head unit and I like to keep everything the same brand for some neurotic reason. Also, I don't understand amps very well. Do I need a 4 channel amp to power my 4 speakers or are the amp channels something completely different? My unit is 50wx4, btw. Isn't that pretty good? My stock speakers are something like 25w. Whatever that means.

I ordered a nice little system from a place called Audio Warehouse Express. Front speakers, 2 amps, and a sub, all Pioneer. I've never installed amps before, should be interesting :loco: Funny thing was that they had the sub enclosure listed at $15 and I was like "WTF?" and then the next day got an email saying that was an obvious typo and that they'd still send it if I wanted it but for $130. hahaha
All total it was around $600 not including shipping and the wiring I'm going to have to buy. I'll also probably have to buy a set of rear speakers, I don't know how well fronts-only will sound. So, probably $800 when I'm all done. I don't know if that's alot for a very nice system (the speakers are the tier right under Pioneer's "competition" line) but I've never spent anywhere near that on car audio before.

My last custom setup was an Alpine head unit (needed a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering to operate the damn thing) with Boston Acoustic speakers. The whole thing, with installation and what not, was probably close to a grand. Now, when I car shop, I always make sure to bring a CD with me, that I'm very familiar with, to test out the stereo that comes with the car. I've found that you need to spend an arm and a leg to construct an after market systems that sounds superior to some of the better Bose systems that are in the Japanese cars.

Zod

Yeah, and many of the new cars have proprietary setups that make it impossible to do an aftermarket setup unless you want to cut a gaping hole in the dash
Fortunately, my 03 Ranger has the same basic interior design as it's early 80s inception

Well, I got this thing installed for the most part. It took the majority of Saturday to do it. I've never done more than a head unit install so I was pretty much going by instinct. I got very frustrated when I realized I needed a ridiculously large drill bit to cut a hole in the firewall. After buying a 5/8" bit and realizing it wouldn't fit in my drill, I just drilled a bunch of 1/4" holes next to each other (making some nice steel shards and barbs) and squeezed the huge power wires though - this is frowned-upon in the literature, apparently.
The security of the amps to the floor is questionable at best and the sub box didn't come with any mounting hardware (thanks, Pioneer!) and the recommended hardware is NOWHERE to be found. So, I'm going to have to take it out until I can come up with something.
The sound is ridiculously awesome though. First disc I tried was some Cryptopsy to see if the kick drum would actually sound like a kick drum and not a tap-tap-tap. It's like you're at a concert.
Maybe not worth the money overall but I can't really listen to music in the house and I had some money to blow, so...whatever. I can now highly recommend adding a closed-box sub to your system though. Much more accurate and realistic than ported or bandpass types that are more geared to a booming, farting, phony rap bass. Definitely worth it.

My rear speakers and amp were supposed to be installed today but when my friend called me @ 10am to get together, I still hadnt gone to bed for the night, so I passed. Hopefully Wednesday.

Im gonna go without the sub at first and go from there.

I'm foregoing rear speakers atm. I don't think I'm going to need them.
BTW, I have just one 10" sub powered by a 250 W (continuous) mono amp in a sealed box. It reproduces with amazing accuracy.

Edit: I'm no audio expert, I just mean to say I don't hear any reason to have anything more (bigger, powerful, numerous, etc.). Sounds just like the live shows of bands I listen to - I can't think of a better guage than that.

so i spent $215 on WIRES/RCA....to get my rears set up with the sweeet Alpine amp i got from my boy. Now my deck only has 2 outputs and not 4, so i have to buy his old deck. im spending so much money on this cuz i had go and buy these serious 6x9's with crossovers. the amp has some fucked up technology to somehow split so its working all 4 channells just not optimal and it alreqady sounds fantabulous.

i never had a sub in a car, well actually the Mazda is supposed to have one with the Bose package that I have, doesn't sound that deep though.
i.m no bass head and don't listen to music at ear shattering levels in my car (except when i cruise by my old HS trying pick up some loose vagine) ... but some people swear by subs .... see what they actually do is make your other speakers sound better as all the low frequencies get filtered to it ...

but whatever ... if it already pounds, I would forgo the sub.

BTW both of you momos ... post some pics of the setup

yeah, im still working on getting that camera. :tickled:

all the speakers are behind factory grills anyhow so u cant see anything....just the amp thats bolted the back of my backseat. all wires are ninja-style.
