Lately I've been getting heavily into Melodic Death Metal bands like Carcass, Arch Enemey, Esqarial, Arise, and the alikes. I'm looking for other recommendations that are similar. What do you recommend? (note: bands like Dimmu Borgir and Children Of Bodom are not similar. Please use your ears.)

Here is a brief list of the shit that has been in heavy rotation on my mp3 players (computer, and portable):

Carcass - Heartwork
Arch Enemy - Burning Bridges
Arch Enemy - Black Earth
Arch Enemy - Stigmata
---Note: no Angela Gossow AE garbage.
Armageddon - Crossing The Rubicon
Arise - The Beautiful New World
Arise - The Godly Work Of Art
Absence, The - From Your Grave
Amoral - Decrowning
Amoral - Wound Creations
Esqarial - Inheritance
Esqarial - Discoveries
Eucharist - Mirrorworlds
Grimfist - 10 Steps To Hell
Holy Moses - Strength Power Will Passion
Parkway Drive - Killing With A Smile
Shadow - Shadow
Scar Symmetry - Symmetric In Design
Unmoored - Infinite Soul-Extension
Yyrkoon - Dying Sun
Witchery - Dead, Hot, and Ready
Witchery - Symphony For The Devil
Gandalf - Rock Hell
Raise Hell - Wicked Is My Game
Chimaira - Chimaira
Chimaira - The Impossibility Of Reason
In Flames - Colony
In Flames - The Jester Race
In Flames - Whoracle

Essentially, what I'm talking about is the "groovier" rock-ish melodic death metal bands that put an emphasis on guitar work.

Any suggestions?

(note: the reason I titled this post "Carcass - Heartwork" is that I believe that this is the album that started it all!)

Arsis - A Celebration of Guilt
Arsis - A Diamond For Disease

They are essentially a faster and more technical version of Heartwork.

I think you would also like Ash and Elm - The Death of Compassion.

Other albums you would enjoy:

Omnium Gatherum - Spirits and August Light (aka the best Gothenburg style Melo-death album ever)
Epoch of Unlight - Caught in the Unlight!

Try:
Eucharist - A Velvet Creation
Unanimated - Ancient God of Evil
couldn't be said any better, but In the forest of the dreaming dead is still good though!:headbang:

If u like Heartwork grab Swansong and Necrotism... by carcass - the ladder being one of the best melodic type death albums around IMO

^ In their earlier years yes, not later on though, there is no way heartwork or swansong are grindcore albums

...or Necroticism either for that metter, that guy is lost at sea.
Looking over your choices very briefly I'm going to guess you'd like Edge of Sanity, Arsis, (early) The Crown and Dissection but you should also check out some thrashier bands like Destroyer 666 and Heathen.

Dark Tranquility - Skydancer
Dark Tranquility - The Gallery
Dark Tranquility - The Mind's I
Dark Tranquility - Damage Done
Dark Tranquility - Character
At The Gates - Terminal Spirit Disease
At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul

Heartwork is great, necroticism is so much better.

I've probably said this in the exact sameway 10 times in the last month here.

Some off the top of my head:

Swordmaster, The Crown, Blackstar (blackstar rising, US), Mercenary (though I hate them), Dominus - The First 9 (though good luck finding it!)
