Chango Studios

I like the sound of Chango Studios alot: To me, it feels really modern. Honestly, I want to get my low end to sound like Of Machines.
But Joey's right, everyone makes fun of it. On formspring, someone asked me how I felt about Woe Is Me (they're from my area), and I mentioned that I liked the Chango sound.. Next thing I know, I'm getting this formspring-hate that's all like "I lost respect for you. How could any musician like Chango? It has such a fake sound!"

remember a few years ago when all the roadrunner bands started going on like HURRR WE ARENT REAMPING OR REPLACING OR ANY OF THAT SHIT (which I admire and respect, but with all the roadrunner bands you could tell it was to try and garner respect by being different and OLD SKOOLZ AND REALZ, totally not form the heart) ?
that mindset's just carried over with some people.

I'm with you on this one Gareth. I think some people are more into the straight up, no bull shit approach to recording and feel its more "OLD SKOOLZ AND REALZ" which is fair enough but if a studio is getting custom, pulling in big bands and people are happy with the results, why not? There's no set way or bullet point guide to how bands should be recorded.

I am a fan of Chango's newer stuff, but I haaaaaaate the guitars in of machines. It like super lowpass highpass all the time.

That's my point, whatever mix fits the band and the music the most.
I was just referencing that whole overly contrived HURRR RAW AND REAL thing that Trivium and Lamb of God went on about with their last albums. Both albums had drum replacement or augmentation. I'm pretty sure someone on here said Shogun was re-amped, not sure about LOG - Wrath, but that one sounds like it could well be the original files, dirty fucking tone.
But yeah, it all came across as not being very genuine, and since then all the kiddies that aren't too busy beating their meat to autotune and slate 12a productions have been going around acting like they're part of some master race that only listens to REAL PRODUCTIONS MAAAAAAAAAAN, which is obviously complete bullshit. If they wanted real production they'd go and listen to an old Immolation record or something.

Fair point dude, can't really argue! All down to what sound the band wants and if they like the production of previous bands coming from that studio.

Not really had any bad words about Chango as such on this thread. I like personally like the production but theres still something weird about it which I cant put my finger on. I was half expecting some Sturgis comment to pop up due to the genre of bands recording there.

Oh yeh, Gareth, a little birdie told me your coming to visit sunny Wales this summer ;)

from what i hear from several crappy small "local" bands, that studio will tell the bands they will shop their stuff to labels for you if you record there. I don't know if they actually do or not, but it seems like a pretty lame gimmick considering most of the bands they say this to wouldn't have a chance in hell of getting signed.

to be honest.
every band that has recorded there in the past half year to a year has gotten picked up by a decent size label.

although I dont think they shop their stuff to labels. more like they put in a good word or something.

yea im starting to like his newer stuff as well.

but his old samples (and some of his new) sound fucking horrible.
like the snare on I See Stars for example. makes me wanna shoot myself

And the Birth.Eater drums, although if he had turned the snare down a little bit, I might like the result. Not sure about it though.

Yeah, I also hate I See Stars drums. Something really weird going on there.

you mates with joe eh? haha
yeah i am. i cant remember the name of the place im staying, out in the sticks in south wales so i can just fuck off into the hills and get really stoned and explore haha

yahh im mates with joe. he lives pretty close to me.

but anyway, without hi jacking this thread, have fun in south wales bro. got some beautiful scenery down there, ideal for getting blitzed and wondering off into the hills!

I made the previous thread referencing chango. I can't truly comment on them as I don't know them and have never recorded there. However, I am moving up there in 3 weeks, so maybe I can become friends with 'em. lol. Nah. Their mixes are good, I just hate how every local band around here views chango as a godsend. They do good shit, but they make it sound like the end all recording studio. I have also "heard" that they pretty much ask which "big" band you want to sound like. I mean hell, people go to chango for the chango sound, so I guess it's all good. Not so much hate for 'em anymore. I respect their talent. :)
