I'm doing all of my triggering via Slate's Trigger, so.... what I do is:
Audition a bunch of snares that I KNOW have a ton of articulations, maybe blend 1 or 2 of those (sometimes more) but while I'm doing this I'll load up a one-shot sample and just start blending it in slightly.
It differs for EVERY mix so I can't give exact number, but let's say my dynamic snares are at 0dB, depending on the sonic character of the one shot, it'd probably be....well, just loud enough to make a difference but not go past the limit to where my snare is all machine gunned-out.
Same for kicks but I give no fucks about dynamic, one-shot, etc... I use whatever works, usually a blend of anywhere from 2 to 7 or 8 samples... all different levels, pitches, polarities, etc...
For blasts and fills, I automate my ENTIRE SNR buss just as I would if I was NOT using a one shot.... if i wasnt using a one shot I might not necessarily HAVE to automate during blasts/fills but it's EXTREMELY rare for me to not use at LEAST 1 or 2 one shot.... I'd say at LEAST two, both totally different just to fill in what I'm missing from my other SNR samples.
I call it: SAMPLE STACKING.
FUCK IT.
JUST DO IT!
