Charlie Writes in.....

i think what he said is reasonable.. why cant bush help us? he aint doin shit, i think.. flying over the place.. what the f*** is that goin to help?? why did help come to the tsunami people faster than to our own country our own people..that's so messed up and makes no sence.. bush says: were doing all to help the people down there.. pray to god everything will be ok.. god bless u.. god god god god god god god.. there is no fuckin god that will help us.. he should just move his ass and do something.. he told the people down there, there will be 4000 men coming to help?? nobody is fuckin there!!! i just think its horrible that guys are rapping girls down there.. i mean why the F*** do u need to rape someone Oo is that gonna help the situation ur in if u are down there???? NO ITS FUCKIN NOT!!!!! i understand shooting somebody because he's trying to kill u or trying to rob ur store or what not.. thats horrible aswell.. but raping someone.a 12 year old girl????????? theres no reasoning behind that.. there will never be.. people do a lot of fucked up shit when they are hungry or when they are scared.. thats normal.. no one can blame them.. but raping someone?? i just think they should be shot..it seems like a movie, whats happening down there.. its somewhat like resident evil but only without the zombies and that everything is flooded.. i think we could helped OUR OWN PEOPLE faster than how they are trying to do it now...... it just messed up... i dont think they talk about stuff like that in america... at least i have friends in germany that inform me about stuff like that.....

@Bleearg: and u just dont know what the fuck ur talking about...........

Hey Charlie, you’re partially correct. But as a practicing Civil Engineer/hydrologist I can tell you that with a storm this large, it is amazing that more people did not die. In addition, the local authorities absolutely must take a substantial portion of the blame for the aftermath since the flood waters did not develop immediately after the storm. They could have, and should have, gotten many thousands of people out of there.

The people themselves must also take blame as everyone who could have gotten out should have. This would have left only the people who could not leave, and would have GREATLY reduced the number of people needed to be rescued.

As a hydrologist who works with local and federal authorities, I can state that this would have happened no differently with Clinton in the white house. That is the definition of a 150 to 200 year disaster, as this was. Such a disaster is very difficult to engineer for as the majority of local governments only call for a 100-year event to be contained. The local or district managers must now focus on updating their standards to a more stringent set of engineering criteria.

Traditionally, no matter who is in the White House, it is a bad idea to rely on the federal government. Primary provisions and contingency plans must be made at regional and local levels in order to be effective because often the problems are unique to that region. This is certainly the case in the south, and they are the primary focus of blame by the professional community.

BTW: played a gig with you guys in Germany last year and you all were damn good!
BTWW: you remember when "Fist" came out and we stole a lot of records to take to your practice because Megaforce was too damn cheap to give you copies?

if u would compare the two.. they would kinda be the same.... its just horrible..

imagin ur holding on to ur wifes hand then she gets turn from u because of waters rushing through ur house.. u can escape, u go back to ur broken down house and find pictures of ur wife.. and u know shes out there somewhere.. probable dead.......

most of them couldnt leave.. most of the population down there is black and very very poor.. most of them dont have cars.. and now THATS where people should have helped... BUSES... THERE WERE HARDLY ANY BUSES to evacuate people.. the dams( no clue how to write some words but oh well im knew to the english language) needed reparing for years and years.. no one noticed i guess.. and they needed a disaster like this to notice.. some things could have been differently and we might not have a situation as bad as this one right now

I'm sure its real hard on Charlie to afford the increases we all have to deal with. Get your momma to spell check for you MORON, mine is in her grave by the way. Maybe I will go to the Milano board there might be someone there who understands that a natural disaster is no one's fault. There is alot to do and it wont be finished for a long time. Charlie CHEATS anyway. Music and politics don't mix. Where is Pete Townsend when you need him? (probably looking at kiddie porn)

what dont u just watch the news...... there is a lot that could have been done before.. they knew something was gonna happen.. they could have send buses.. they could have send stuff faster.. ofcourse its fuckin mother nature.. shes avenging for what we do to her.. thats my believe.. but there was stuff that could have been done to prevent such a BIG disaster.....

Nini,

This is where the local authorities should have taken the lead. If they know that 50,000 people cannot leave in the event of an emergency, then they must make provisions to evacuate 50,000 people.

One of the most common thing I hear from the survivors is "We lived through hurricane Camille so we figured we'd stay for this."

The purpose of my post was to encourage a deeper investigation of the situation than the analysis offered by Charlie. As I said before he is partially correct, but in order to solve a problem of this magnitude it is no more sufficient to be partially correct as it is to do partial engineering.

maybe the dude asked for help but there just wasnt any coming? like nobody is coming now...
of course people could have left.. and they chose not to do so.. but most of them just couldnt.. everybody failed.. espacially after this everybody is faling to help.. its just taking to long to help... the situation is so much out of control that it is hard to see a change sooner or later..

Bleearg:

Correct. Please click on the link below. What you see is a FEMA floodplain map for downtown (?) New Orleans, prepared in 2001 (I hope the link works, it expires quick). The areas that are dark are what is predicted WILL be under water in a 100-year event. This was a 150 event, minimum.

http://map1.msc.fema.gov/idms/IntraView.cgi?KEY=79016727&IFIT=1

The message that this should have sent to local authorities is that many people will die.

I sit here in Germany and I am just wondering why the people kill themselves. A few years ago we had a great flood in germany and everyone helped everyone. But what are the Americans doing? They kill themselves. Thats so typical for those guys there. And Osams is right now sitting in a hole, a notebook with internet infront off him and can't stop laughing. America is embarrassing for the whole world. But I as an old european guy don't want so say anything more to this^^ I am just watching and think my part

Nini,

Don't ask for help, you (Mayor and Governor) be the help. This is the point, don't rely on outsiders to solve problems you should have planned for.

If you think this is bad, just wait for the "big one" in California. This is nothing compared to what is in store for them.

lol

i just love reading ur english ^^ :D

well.. the map is interesting but i dont think everybody knew about it.. basicly the disaster was just about to happen.. i just think there should have been more help and there should be some now.. its ridiculous that its taking so long.. and yes ther mayor should have done it right away.. i mean what are we going to do??? thats why we them.. so basicly it is their fault it is their fault there are some many people dying.. because they didnt act fast enough..

then will have the floods of the disaster of california to cool the mountain off ^^

there will be loads of disasters that will accure sooner or later.. its just mother nature.. thats all.. most of the coasts will flood anyways because of the meltings.. and then will have iceage again in a few thousand years.. it will never stop..

Nini,

Ahhh, now your getting it. Government is slow in general, at all levels. Read the German post above. He says that everyone helped everyone in the German flood and he is 100% correct. If you want the job done right, do it yourself. The minute you rely on someone else you’re screwed because nobody has your best interest in mind but you.

On the other hand, if you pay the government a huge percentage of your paycheck like they do in Germany you should expect more from them. I make good money and I still pay 50% less to the government than they do in most of Europe.

Yea it is tough to say if global warming is happening because we are about 50% through a natural warming cycle that started in 1995 (remember during the cool cycle in the 80's they said we were heading for an ice age?). I think it probably is happening but I cannot prove it.

What the President did do, could have or should have done is irrelevant right now, the important thing to remember is that these people need all of the help we can give them. I spent about 10hrs at the Astrodome today helping feed and clothe the evacuees and believe me they are greatful just to be alive and on dry land. Let the politicians battle this out amongst themselves when the mess is cleaned up.
