Collective questions for Mr. Sneap -thread

I have heard rumors of a secret redcoat-only plug-in he has special access to on license from MI6 that allows him to magically sync takes accurately in sample rates only available at 14º Kelvin...
I'm going to kick you right in the dick

Andy

Why did you want to become a producer (instead of a musician?) ? Would you choose the same career path if you were starting out today?

?

He was/is a musician... Released 3 albums with late 80's English pagan thrash band Sabbat!

In fact, if you read his post only a few posts up....:

....... I'm also a musician and I've been in the business over 20 years.......

Taking the starting point from another thread: at which level do you track? I know you have some good gear to record in your studio, but for example when you tracked Exodus, you had a 002 and a RME pre's (I think) so, do you think that the highest level without peaking is good, or do you think that it's better to have the level at -13 / -6 dB? Thanks

I know he is a musician but he clearly focuses on producing more. I'm wondering why he chose to go into producing rather than just staying as a musician and trying to make it big (well, as big as metal gets).

nah, the 002 was used as a "dongle" for PT and the converter was RME ADI-8 hooked to the 002 via lightpipe.
the ADI-8 converters are actually really good so it was API preamps-->RME ADI-8.
pretty good chain actually

Yes, of course the 002 was not used as a preamp :) I know.
Anyway, it would be very interesting to know his point of view about the tracking levels

As far as tracking levels go, I just get a decent level in, I'm not looking at numbers.
DI's, the same.

I didn't continue as a musician back in the early 90's as I was broke and I saw this as a way forward doing something I really enjoyed. If there had been a chance to do well as a guitar player I would have taken it and probably still would. I just find it very frustrating dealing with people that don't pull their weight and put 100% into something when I do so I think I'm safer doing this job.
