Collective questions for Mr. Sneap -thread

Yeah, I was assuming that the Genelecs in the Exodus pic came from you, Andy.

So, since most of my question was answered, I'll rephrase...

What monitors get used for mixing and what ones get used for mastering, or do they all get used at various stages?

Pardon me if I've missed if you've answered this question Andy. But, can you tell me how hard you're hitting the mutliband compressors in your Finalizer? Do you have favorite settings you go back to, or do they change dramatically with each session? This is a great thread by the way! Lovin' the info you're sharing with us!! YOU ARE THE MAN!!:worship:

To Lasse:
Hmmm... Are you sure?)) I think that you are talking about topic #91, aren't you?
Then I think that Andy is using Sonnex Oxford and URS API eqs on heavy distorted guitars, am I right, Andy?
I have tried URS eq, and it does nothing for me comparing to my Waves API, wich are really-really amazing. Oxford is great but it's new for me, BTW, Andy, what is your favored mode in Oxford eq?

Hey Andy, if you were allowed to own only one Bass guitar......

What would it be...........?

thats a tough one. I think the best bass tone I've got has been Exodus and Jack uses a Yamaha, not sure what model. Alot of that is in the way he plays tho. I have 2 Sandberg basses I love and I've played some great Fender Jazz basses in my time. The Warwick buzzard, although hideous looking sounds really cool too......that doesn't answer you question does it.

An ex-member of the band mentioned this to me the other day after I was talking about all the helpful recording and mixing advice available on your forum. I think he said you did their first demo but Dave Chang did the second?

yes I knew those guys, hate to say it but they weren't destined for greatness tho nice guys all the same.

I'm not hitting it too hard, just -3db at a 2.1 ratio most the time.

No that was a gtr center favour with the genelecs.

I just use the 1031's and the sub for everything pretty much now.

Andy, how big of a roll does automation play in your mixing? I was thinking about the drums on Doomsday Machine in particular, is their more reverb going on for the slower parts and less for the faster stuff? I'm asking since it would seem to me that all that reverb you hear in the slower parts seems like it would mud-up on faster parts, but then again I have no idea.

Automation plays a huge part, theres things being automated all over the place, pushes on drums, gtrs ,vocals, eqs, delay sends etc etc

any recommendations for bass on a budget? And I just mean as low as you would imagine going not dirt poor lol. I know you've said nice things about spectors before, though I know their higher-end models can be pricey.

wow, gain reduction or threshold?
never had the finalizer's comp reducing that much (3 dB)....perhaps worth a another try
I always felt that as soon as the reduction-lights are starting to light up it's almost too much.

Haha, I've always felt that way, too, but I really like my Finalizer. I feel like I can "get away" with more compression without it sounding completely evident.
