Collective questions for Mr. Sneap -thread

1) i heard you're using URS API on gtrs - which one?
2) you're using Cranesong Phoenix on 2buss - as i know this is a bundle of tape sat plugs - which one you're using usually and why? i've never used it coz im not using PT HD - do you know any substitution of it?

But...do you find that would be so good to have an "universal preset", that everyone will use....where you have to do nothing? C'mon....the best aspect of this job is the creation, giving to a mix your touch and your vision of music........
It would be like....I don't know.....buying amps without pots, with the settings Andy usually use...

Automation plays a huge part, theres things being automated all over the place, pushes on drums, gtrs ,vocals, eqs, delay sends etc etc

Thanks alot for taking the time to reply! I guess that's where I need to go from now, since I hardly use any automation in my mixing, atleast for the metal stuff.

I just want to know if the sub's doing most of the work (say up to 70hz) or just backing up the monitors (ex. 40hz and below).

Andy - do you use Bob Katz 83dB rule of thumb, or do you monitor at varying levels (depending on subject matter)?

I saw these questions earlier in the thread but they were never answered so I'm going to re-word and re-ask them.. I think they are important questions.

1. One of the bigger differences between an amateur recording and a pro recording is the vocals... the really pro guys have this very specific vocal sound, and while it obviously varies from song to song and from artist to artist, it always has that same quality about it that is hard to explain... what is this? is there a standardly practiced EQ or something that I'm not aware of? what's the secret?

2. How do you get the bass and the guitars to mesh so well together? almost like they are one singular unit.

I think it could be the preamps that make the diference, specially for clean vocals, but i would like to know it as well.

+2 to both of these.
