Collective questions for Mr. Sneap -thread

I was starting to get disappointed that this thread was going to lose some awesomeness by going off on a subdrop tangent... No more subdrop talk in this thread from now on!

Andy,

What do you Regard as Most important in your Signal Chain Between the Source and the Converter.

I forget who it was, but someone (perhaps Metaltastic) proposed the theory that the Further down the chain the less impact it may have on the outcome. ie better Preamps will have a bigger difference than better converters.

I understand that in all aspects of production, it is a collective thing, so it doesnt really come down to one component, but i was wondering if you had any comments on this, or had any experience in this topic?

Thanks

Trep

Hey Andy, I always have some trouble with comps and snare+toms.
I sometimes overcompress them and then leave them uncompressed and try to give them what I need by a Eq.

So do you have any tips (ratio, attack, release).

I´m always want to get my toms as punchy as you did them on the KSE - the end of heartache

cheers,

and thank you 10000times for answer all the questions!!!!!!

I actually wouldn't be surprised at all if there's no compression at all on the EOH toms. Sounds like new heads, good tuning, and a good drummer. Probably minimal EQ too...

Andy - how do you make drum that "The Undying Darkness" of caliban has.
1) it really has click somewhere in mid range IMO. - is that pitch shifted to get that ? just ,personally ,i have click, but it is too metallic. ((
2) BD smacks (slaps): what do you do for that. ? you have smacking drum after recording from mics or what ?

thx

Uh oh. Andreyp is back.

"the one who asks stupid questions stays stupid only for a while, the one who stays silent stays stupid forever"

Yeah, shure, but I mean questions like "Andy which do you think is better? Line6 toneport or Presonus Firepod?" are so useless..
C'mon...Andy is very friendly but some questions are very embarassing.
Anyway, probably I'm stupid :)

Mr. Sneap,
First of all, thanks a bunch for all the answers. You rule! I have a n00bish question for you regarding drums: In which situation would you want the room signal to be mono? I've heard of people doing that but I never got to figure out why.

Can i make a suggestion for a rule for this thread?

NO QUESTIONS THAT:

A) DO NOT DIRECTLY APPLY TO ANDY
B) COULD JUST AS WELL BE ANSWERED BY SOMEONE ELSE!

too many questions being asked that would be better asked elsewhere

PS not aimed at you Forbidden

Good idea! Very good idea. Except "DO NOT: CAN ONLY BE ANSWERED BY ANDY" doesn't really make sense, haha.

I dont think we did compress on that.
