Collective questions for Mr. Sneap -thread

speaking of the samples, for those infamous samples do you remember what chain you used not including mics really... meaning did you use like a distressor for compression, spl transient, etc. etc...

or just in general i know you like to work more in the box now but when you make/made samples what kind of stuff were you running through post mic.

this stems from reading that steven slate booklet and reading how different sample were ran through different compression chins and tape machines and this and that.

wondering what your thoughts are on the Bare Knuckle range of pups

We already told you this once: READ THE FIRST POST! Double strike out for you:

- Preferrably no questions that are related only to a certain gear
- No questions that do not DIRECTLY apply to Andy and/or could be just as well be answered by someone else

If the question would've been "what pups do you prefer" it would've been a different subject, but since it was not the questions, this is not the case. Make your own thread for these questions, thank you.

Ah, for fucks sake, I know what preferably means, Jesus, I think it is a legit question, seeing as I think Andy would have some great knowledge on the subject. Sorry for "not wording it right", but I am keen to know what his thoughts are as Chris Broderick is now using the BK range, and I need new pups. I dont want to ask a vague question to Andy, cause I will get a vague answer. I think using the words "Bare Knuckles" is not a crime, as I am genuinely interested in them!

I have a question for Andy: do you use things like Waves MaxxBass or any other psycho-acoustic devices to deal with the low end of your mixes?
Grreat question there +1

Waves RBass maybe?

I have a question for Andy : do you use things like Bare Knucle Painkillers or any other high output pick up to deal with the tone of the guitars in your mixes?

Great question there +1

Bare Knuckles ceramic warpig maybe?

Again with the guitar questions from me...

Do you drive your mic pre's hard (into distortion) to include some nice harmonic content and then attenuate before hitting the Converter's (so you don't clip them), or do like to use the pre's "clean"?

Thanks again. :kickass:

Hey Andy,

do you have your cabinets in your studio allready miced up or do you mic them every record new?

and do you place the cab you're going to record on the ground or slightly higher like on a case, a beer crate ;) or an other cab?

and where do you place them in the room - in the corner, on the wall, in the middle of the room?

Thanks a lot for your answers!

I suppose I'll continue with my one-57 question before; I'm sure you've tried blending in either another 57 or, say, an MD421; how come you come back to just one 57?

Though I'm not Andy I remember a discussion we had and listening to two different versions of a mix with one 57 and two 57's and he reckoned one microphone only was more defined. Also, he has a room with the cabinets, I don't see why he would un-mic them unless trying some new cabs or stuff. When I visited it was one mesa in the middle of the room or so, on its coasters. Hope that helps before he gives more details.

I always mic a speaker away from walls and floors, so if I like the bottom speaker, I'll flip the cab on its side so there's no reflection off the floor (which is carpeted and packed with sand by the way)
