Controversial opinions on metal

Black metal is awesome (see on this forum this opinion is controversial because everyone hates it)

I thought this forum was for "underground/true metal" AKA not for sissy little faggots.

Nah, that's not really controversial. On this page alone I count around 7 posters besides yourself who are into black metal. The black metal thread in this forum is also among the most popular. Like every genre it has it's detractors, of course, but what you are seeing lately is a rather vocal minority (two or three posters, really) lashing out against it in the forum; something that has probably been triggered by the worst genre thread/poll and the "black metal is the worst subgenre" troll thread before it.

I guess this belongs here more than anywhere else. I was just at a party where this dude dead serious claimed that if you don't have tats or piercings, you don't truly appreciate metal. He was also a Killswitch Engage fan, and tried to start a fight with a dude who didn't like them, so there ya go.

I guess it relates in that I personally don't believe personal style has any bearing on ability to enjoy music. There are those who do. I won't call them ass fucking gila monsters from bieber's nostrils.... but they're kinda ass fucking gila monsters from bieber's nostrils.

The people who hate Black Metal are either trolls, or guys like HamburgerBoy, who don't like anything outside of penises. TBH, I don't even know what Hamburger likes music wise.

This is why there is such trolling and trolling threads about black metal on this forum. Some of you guys openly mock or insult other genres (like power/folk/glam), and call "sissy" or "little faggots" people who are not into black metal.

But you also go crazy when someone mentions how he is not into black metal...

Doubt that it matters where black metal is derived from since it is such a poorly defined genre that it could well be anything. Even the most fringe bands can be considered black metal if they only throw in a couple of riffs and some shrieks; no matter if 90& of their music consists of folk or ambient sounds.

The whole genre is basically an amusement park, complete with it's house of horrors.

This is the truth. There needs to be a line drawn between black metal (e.g. Mayhem, Sarcofago, Mortuary Drape, etc) and black music (e.g. anything prefixed with depressive folk ambient etc). The latter has less to do with metal than the average metalcore or alt metal band so reviled. "Black metal", as it is known today, is the most insidious and subversive force within heavy metal music, and should be the enemy of all those that value true metal.
