Controversial opinions on metal

they share/d multiple members, and were a fairly well known and praised band around the time drudkh emerged, though they seem to have slipped off the radar in drudkh's wake. it's been a long time for me but from what i recall ANCESTORS' SHADOWS, HERITAGE and DYING EMOTIONS DOMAIN were all good, though not top tier or anything.

Astrofaes are alright. Not amazing but worth hearing I guess.

I used to like the first two Drudkh albums but now I just think they're boring and uninventive. You gotta be bringing them riffs, son. YOU KNOW I GET SICK WITH IT LIKE THAT, BITCH. If you're trying to get on that atmospheric tip, it's gotta have some tension, it can't be too easy. That's why Burzum - HLTO is like the ultimate for me in that style. I feel like Drudkh are at their best when they're not trying to be Burzum-ish. I gotta listen to Blood in Our Wells again or w/e it's called because I think I like it less than Swan Road but I'm not sure now that I think about it. The stuff after that album that I heard sounded like Coldplay.

does anyone else like these bands that are going back to the old metal format like these:

i think they are better then the originals personally except black sabbath

Oh sweet honey baby...

Is what goes through my mind half the time when you post. But yeah, good bands. Some of it better than some of the 'originals'. Not sure liking them is controversial whatsoever.

Here's something I've found to be controversial. Psychedelic Electric Wizard> fast punk sounding Electric Wizard.

Wo Fat has some of the sickest stoner jams out there. Those fucking riffs man...Unparalleled to anyone else in the genre as far as Im concerned.

Also, not sure what is fast punk sounding about The Wiz either...Immediately I thought of the end of Funeralopolis...But even their "fast" riffs are still a far cry from being "Fast" or "punk".

Not necessarily punk if you're splitting hairs but certain tracks and most of Let Us Prey have a quickness kind of rolling punk vibe that I do not care for.

I would rather listen to this

Make sense? I actually dig their doom loyalty more than what most people seem to think makes them unique. Their self titled and Dopethrone are their two best albums, their cleans far outweigh the screams, and smoke weed every day.

i think this might end up being my exact opinion if i listened to non-burzumish drudkh some more.

No disagreement there, that song is bullshit. Forgot it even existed. That being said, Let Us Pray is a SOLID album. I hope that song doesnt keep you from diving into the whole album.

And there really is no comparison to any of their material to their self titled, shit is easily their best with Come My Fanatics a close second.

Its interesting though that youll praise Dopethrone, but dont like Let Us Pray. I dig both styles of theirs. I like the bluesy doom, and the heavy stoner doom. Works especially well live when you get a mix of both.

Last point, I disagree with clean being superior to screams with EW, for the sole reason that I cannot stand behind Black Masses. One of their worst albums, imo.

seems like a pretty dumb reason for missing out on three of the best albums ever written, but ok then. stick around anyway dude, you seem to have good taste aside from this :p

Russian Arkona are one of the best metal bands going at the moment.

Also, in regards to Doom Metal, Cathedral are worthless and boring live. Completely boring shit.

Doom metal is good when it isn't boring or too stonerish. So early Trouble is great, later Trouble, post 1990, not so much.

When I first got into Cathedral, I vehemently insisted they were great because I have this serious mental problem of defending the underdog/ getting over-enthused about new things/ being an ass. But I have realized they're pretty sub-par.

Also Manic Frustration is great, and The Distortion Field was actually pretty cool, despite Wagner's absence. Plastic Green Head can mainly be buried forever.

Aside from Forest of Equilibrium, Cathedral is worthless. I have no idea what people see in them. It's like a more trisomal Tom G Warrior fronting a poor stoner rock band.
