Controversial opinions on metal

sotlb is good but come on

1995 had

blut aus nord - ultima thulee
necromantia - scarlet evil witching black
unanimated - ancient god of evil
primordial - imrama
in the woods - heart of the ages

lmao. what a joke post. None of those album even come closing to touching the greatness that is Storm of the Light's Bain.

That Unanimated album used to bore the living shit out of me. I dont know how anyone can even think that album is in the same category as SotLB.

Yeah, Ancient God of Evil is 2nd tier Dissection, still good obv, but seriously, not in the same league. Imrama is one of Primordials worst albums and Primordial are hardly a 10/10 band anyway, same with Blut Aus Nord.

HEart of the Ages and Scarlet Evil Witching Black are both up there fighting for the top tho.

For what it's worth, I couldn't really care about Dissection either.

Primordial and BAN are far more interesting bands.

I like imrama, but journeys end and spirit the earth aflame are their peak. Storm before calm is good too.

After that, forgettable

That first Blut Aus Nord album is pretty overrated. The non-metal parts (i.e. all the synth stuff) are pretty amazing; the metal is solid, but far from exceptional. Their second album is their real masterwork from their more epic records.

As for all the other albums being brought up, none of them approach Storm of the Lights Bane. It's a rare album where every song is phenomenal. And I don't get the hate on "Where Dead Angels Lie." It's an exquisitely written song.
