Controversial opinions on metal

No damnit, stop having weird opinions. Pick something normal like His Majesty at the Swamp or Non Serviam or Crossing the Fiery Path.

I have a problem with grindcore as well. It often lacks dynamics in the music and I also dont care alot for short songs. Some punk genres also suffer from this. If I see that a cd has like 20 tracks on it I pretty much know it wont be anything for me.

Spreading the Disease is undeniably a good thrash album. I kinda get the impression that all their other stuff sucks. Fistful of Metal is definitely pretty mediocre.

I dont get the dislike for Among the Living. I consider it as one of the all time great thrash metal records. I think its ace.

I agree that fistful is alright but nothing special. But hey I feel that about alot of the 1st generation thrash bands debut albums. They all became better with time and a couple of albums in their history.

grindcore can be awesome. these are the genres that suck:

folk metal. (fiddles, flutes, bagpipes...yech)
gay power metal. (manly power metal does exist though)
goregrind/pornogrind/all shitty subgenres with nonstop gurgling/frog vocals
90% of brutal death
90% of tech death
all suicidal black metal (or whatever the genre with "agony screams" is called)
80% of regular black metal

i understand that 'heidentum' is really inorganic and trebly and how offputting that usually is, but for me this is a rare occasion where it works in its favour. the whole experience is so fucking otherworldly and unique, i will defend that shit to the death man. wasn't expecting this opinion to be such a surprise anyway, i've held it for like 5 years. rotting christ are the only one of the unholy trio i like nearly as much.

btw 'crossing the fiery path' is a decent mess and all but i much prefer 'scarlet evil witching black'. great sense of melody and texture even though it's a bit overwrought.

also varathron's best material is easily the stuff on the 'black arts' split.

Taking it a bit farther: Britney Spears > 90% of brutal/tech death

There.
pure death metal ftw.

...
on the other hand, i prefer black metal with extra stuff (symphonic/melodic/industrial) over pure bm.

Any Anthrax after Persistence of Time fails. Just a heads up. I don't get all the Anthrax hate on this board. Oh well. To each his/her own, I guess.

Sick album. That and "Thy Mighty Contract" were their best IMO, although I haven't heard the latest one.
