Controversial opinions on metal

-King Diamond's vocals (for both KD and Mercyful Fate), when he sounds high-pitched like a little kid going "eeee!", are so fucking awful.... and this is coming from someone who thinks Cirith Ungol's vocals are quite tolerable.

I love King Diamond's vocals.
And yet I'm trying hard to get into Cirith Ungol, and not really having any luck, - as the main thing that pisses me off about their stuff is Baker's vocal.

Cirith Ungol's vocals are awesome! But, yes, they are also very cheap sounding. I think I heard them in the 80's and was like, later! But I got One Foot in Hell a while back and now I really enjoy them.

Wasn't there a thread trying to determine the most universally respected metal band here at some point, and didn't it turn out to be somewhat of a tie between Maiden and Sabbath?

In Flames are immensely overrated. Dark Tranquillity are a great band but nothing they have written compares to The Jester Race.

But overall Dark Tranquillity is better than In Flames, at least they started off with great death metal stuff and they still do it, unlike In Flames.

Agreed. Not a big fan of either, but "Whoracle" was friggin sweet. DT's "Skydancer" wasn't bad either.
