Controversial opinions on metal

Electric Wizard I'm definitely not huge on, but yeah Sleep and Om are legitimately great.

Are you kidding me? there were plenty of better albums that came out that year.

Here are a couple off the top of my head .... From Wisdom to Hate, Beneath the Columns of Abandoned Gods, M-16, and The Antichrist.

I don't have the Gorguts album, but I do love their first two and wouldn't be surprise if it's better. M-16 is good and one of Sodom's best, but it's pretty samey. The Antichrist is ok too. I don't even recognize the cover art of that other album, but I'll give it a listen to see if it's anything I would like.

Pro tip: Using the term hipster in any capacity makes you look like an insufferable douche.

You've used the term to describe yourself. I can't even imagine what that makes you.

Oh, and the other day I discovered Queensryche which I fell in love with very quickly. I dont know how they slipped past me all these years.

Second best metal band evar. <3

There is a reason why I stopped doing that, and I never actually used it in any serious manner to begin with.

But at any rate, the best part of his argument is that Joan Baez is nothing if not a poster child for the "stock" sounding singer songwriter archetype

Let me chime in if I may:
Stoner doom (like any doom) is boring to me, though the aforementioned Sleep, Om, and Electric Wizard are the best of that genre. Especially Om, imo.
Toxicity is a good album, and yeah, that year was pretty weak for metal (and rock) in general.
The term "hipster" is basically irrelevant at this point, not unlike "thug"/"wigger"/"gangsta". There is no consistency in either "sub-culture". Just as you see guys with sagging jeans from everywhere to the hood to the 'burbs, everyone from indie rock nerds to goregrind perverts are wearing the skinny jeans and nerd glasses.

..and, you know, all of the other equally valid parts of my argument, such as her broken bare-knuckle boxer nose, bad effects on her very samey and limited vocals, generic lo-fi production typical of the new hip Pitchfork Media favorites of the genre and more.

Slow, Deep, and Hard and Bloody Kisses are the only worth while Type O albums imo.
And DM, are you serious? Do you regret not being in Hollywood Undead anymore (from a financial/success) standpoint?

There's some pretty awesome shit on Dead Again, but overall the album's pretty mediocre.

I have returned to this thread. I will now post in this thread.

The past two pages reveal that Mort Confused still has horrible taste in music. It's also clear that this Sefira character is quite on the ball in his delineation of stoner doom. What a horrible genre indeed.

I agree. Her physical appearance is clearly what makes her a horrible artist.

It does. Clearly it damages her ability to properly use her voice by impairing her breathing. Kind of like Michael Jackson. I can't think of any other reason why she'd have to rely on annoying vocal effects to hide how bad she is.

Her voice is actually really good live, no real effect usage there, and she sounds spot on.
