what does this term actually mean? Is it derogotary? Does it mean a mediocre, cliche death metal band that things they're good because they can roar a lot? That's what I thought it meant, but is it a general term of mockery?

Usually used by anyone who can't stomach death metal vocals. I guess it could refer to a specific type of really deep vocals ala Demilich, Lykathea Aflame, Nile.

I don't think the term cookie monster vocals has to mean that the vocals are shitty... i've seen it used juist as a description of growly type vocals, not necessarily implying that the vocals are bad.
