My point was that thrash was not that different. Yes - it became prominent with the big three or four if you include Exodus, but speed metal and other forms of more underground metal at the time sounded much different than the old Black Sabbath as referenced. Heavy, fast music was around prior to the mid 80's it just was not as prevalent in the mainstream till that time.
