Cradle of Filth are SHIT on record......BUT

Didn't Barker leave after Cruelty...? Which, coincidentally, was their last good album. Hmm.

Good point sir.

Midian was OK at best.... the last album I have by CoF and I only have it
because when they recorded it: that was the time period when I hang out with them... (late 2000)

But even their early albums that I like: are nothing too exciting...
They are definitely GOOD, but not ground breaking.

Ok, Lioness, I am getting a nagging memory here. Do you or did you at one point know an Anthony Choice in the Bay Area?

This would have been pre 2001, as I moved back to Missouri in early 2001. My friend Anthony (heavyset hispanic guy) and I hung out with this girl one day. All I remember about her:

1) Pretty, Dark Hair, Odd Accent
2) He met her online on some board, talked to her on IM
3) I believe she was in the area to visit someone in SF, but that is an iffy memory.
4) She claimed to be a friend of CoF (specifically Gian).

I remembered number 4 when you mentioned hanging out with CoF, and the rest was a reasonable fit, so I thought "Could it be? Nah. But then again..."

I'm just gonna be a trendy asshole and agree that up until Midian it was all good stuff (again, nothing amazing outstandingly spectacular, but good). Even Midian had a few good moments (although Satanic Mantra has received it's share of jokes and laughs from me and my buds). But you gotta love the lyrics of Lord Abortion.

Dusk is their only album I can listen to without skipping any tracks though.

And Nick Barker did his best work with Dimmu and Old Mans Child in my mind. Yeah, the style may have helped - but only because I think Barker really is a perfect match for it. I'm always enthralled by his fills on Blessings Upon The Throne of Tyranny

Barker was big but strong as a fucking team of oxen. I met him after he did a brief touring run with Borknager. Shook his hand and saw stars. He's a monster. This was right after he left the Filthy Fold because he was crossing out Dani's pics in any booklet offered to him to sign :P

I watched and interview with Cronos from Venom, and the guy asked him if he thought Cradle of Filth was black metal and he said "I don't care, I think they're shit."

I concur. Label them whatever you want, it's not going to make the music any less atrocious.
