Too early to tell. The first time I heard Deadwing, I didn't think it was all that great. It's taken me a while to get into, but it's really starting to grow on me.

I have a feeling I'll still like Damnation better in the end, though...

While Deadwing is great in its own way, it's not as memorable as Damnation.

The wierd thing is that porcupine tree, some others may have noticed if they listen to anything out of the metal genre, that porcupine tree seems to be made out of many other bands if i listen to porcupine tree i can hear anything from elbow or radiohead to pearl jam or soundgarden. this puts me off porcupine tree as it sounds unoriginal to me.

Well...
Damnation has two brilliant songs in Closure and Windowpane and a really good song in In My Time of Need and one skippable song.
Deadwing has two brilliant songs in Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here and Lazarus but also has Shallow and Steven Wilson comes off as a pompous asshole who thinks too highly of himself in lots of interviews.
So I'd go with Opeth's.

 Haha, what a stupid poll.

Damnation is a sweet record but absolutely no match for Deadwing. Actually Deadwing plays in a much higher league.
But since this poll is on an Opeth- fanboy- board Damnation surely wins.

 I love this place.

deadwing...."duh".

hope leaves is the only song on damnation which could compete with a song on deadwing.

I disagree. Shallow? Every song on Damnation is better than Shallow.

THE BELOW TEXT REPRESENTS MY OPINIONS:

Well, even if Damnation only consisted of Windowpane, Damnation would still win. But then, it consists of that AND seven other good to great songs, most notable being Hope Leaves. So it really wins. Of course, Arriving Somewhere But Not Here is outstanding, and Deadwing on the whole is a great album, but Damnation has more great moments.

i disagree.

several songs on damnation are quite weak and boring. Shallow is at least pleasing in a catchy hard rock way for me.

Fair enough. I like Deadwing but I think that Shallow and Open Car are very weak tracks. Whereas I don't think Damnation has a weak song. I even love Weakness. It's all subjective I'm not going to say that what I think is right. It's just what I think.

So, if a poll was posted asking you - which do you prefer, apples or oranges? You wouldn't be able to answer?? I don't understand why two things have to be exactly alike in order to be compared.

I chose "too early to tell" because I have to give Deadwing (well, both actually) more listens. I also thought that Lazarus was a great song, but after a week or so I find it bores me to death. I much rather prefer Halo and Open Car.

I think both records have their strong and weak points - I was just curious about the general consensus.

BTW - anyone seen the Opeth site lately? 9 new tracks!! (salivates...) :loco:
