Dan, do you question existence?

Long story short: I started out in my early teens in various local bands(i actually joined my first band when i was twelve). I have played guitar and vocals and for quite some time bass has been my main instrument (along with vocals). Dag and I have played together since the early ninties. My first colaboration with Dan was with "Godsend" on the Wayfarer...album. My first contact with N-gale was when we did the first live shows in -98. Then the Swanö brothers did the "I" album. A couple of years later i was asked to join the band for some concerts and a possible album(Alive Again) . The rest is history:D .

What kind of music were you playing at 12?

Damn, I always find the fun stuff too late. Anyway, I can't resist quoting some not-Dan lyrics from Sweden. :p

"The son of light, lord of slaves
A reign in tyrant ways
Over centuries the story's been told
It's time to let it go
For the legend comes with pain
And his words are spread in vain
We are many standing strong
To deny the holy son

The wounds of thine must vanish
The wounds of thine shall disappear
The wounds of thine has put this world through suffering

Crowned with thorns, the king of lies
Dead, never to arise
Over centuries the lie has been told
It's time to let it go
For the legend comes with pain
And his words are spread in vain
We are many standing strong
To deny the holy son

The wounds of thine must vanish
The wounds of thine shall disappear
The wounds of thine has put this world through suffering"

I see why Tom disliked the initial response to this, because it was pretty hateful, but I think it's not out of line to take exception to this attitude.

This post is superficially written in a respectful manner, but it's very condescending and self-righteous. Why? Because it assumes two things. 1) that there is a particular, one truth, and that the version the person who posted it adheres to is that truth, and 2) that those who do not accept this truth are lacking in insightfulness and intelligence.

The most alarming thing is that there's a hope that Dan will accept this truth and use his music to sell it to others.

I mean, how can you not be offended by this? He's essentially saying Dan is misguided and that if he's smart, he'll change his mind about everything he believes in, and accept a really narrow interpretation of life and spirituality.

I'm an atheist, but I don't go around telling other people that they should not believe in god, because I understand people feel their spirituality is important to them (and one's own truth is the truth). This is a very disrespectful post, and while I know that wasn't the intention of the poster, that is the result of what he wrote, and in my experience this particular type of condescension comes from Evangelical Christians (obviously people in all other religions practice this sort of condescension in some form, but the suggestion that he use his music for religious activism made me think of Evangelical Christians).

Thanks, that's exactly what I would have liked to have the time to say initially, I was just in a bad mood, sorry if I offended anyone, but the tone of the original post was condescending to any non-believers which just isn't right.

Silent Song, there is not hate in Christianity. But, we stand firmly in our beliefs and will not back down from terrosists no matter what religion they are. Hate for protecting ourselves? You should know that from people bombing your train stations-innocent people, but I guess you dont care and thats sad..
i just live in the UK, not a citizen, so they're not my train stations ;)

as for innocent people, i guess then you don't care about the innocent people dying in Iraq because of bombs dropped by the U.S., or in Afghanistan, or anywhere else in the world where wars and old hates destroy us as we seek to prove how much better we are than our neighbors. do you presume to judge who is good and bad from where they come from?

I live in the middle east...I'm so cool.
we got great metal(desparetly trying to change subject)

Tell us of the Metal Scene there in Israel there Para!!!!

Orphaned Land are great guys, every once in a while I meet them in different places...
anyway, they're a great Oriental Prog Death Metal band. they have 3 Albums and an excellent demo EP my favorite is "Mabool-The story of the three sons of seven" (yes, the love Iron Maiden). I believe you can find some samples and a few videos on their site www.orphaned-land.com and some stuff on their fanclub site www.orphaned-disciples.com

For all the SWANO fans out there(and I know there are many:headbang: ), at the time they were signed to Holy records and have some songs feature on Holy Records compilations that feature Dan's "Godsend" like "As we die for...paradise lost" tribute where they did "Mercy" and "Disciples of the sacred oath" that features on "The Holy Bible vol. 1"
and they have their own forum right here in UM(the one after opeth).
anyway I feel like a walking commercial so just go and check'em out...aspecially you,Silent song:loco:

more Israeli bands, let's see...
We have SALEM, a pretty old Orintal Death/Doom band formed in 1985.
Like to sing about the pain of the jews and muslim terror (this one is for Dag;) )
They released a string quortette release lately which is in my opinion is even better than the original songs. www.salemband.com

We have "Betzefer"(school in Hebrew), a hardcore band with a singer with an extremely powerfull voice and a monsterous drummer which is a great promise for the future in the Hardcore field, earlier this year they were signed to Roadrunner and immedietly released their first LP "Down Low" after a series of Ep's and singles, which were released independently. www.betzefer.com

Distorted, A great oriental doom band with a female singer and a growling guitar player(who are really cool), untill now realeased only demos but recorded a full LP(recorded and mixed in sweden) called "Memorial" which is due to be released as soon as they get signed by a record label. there's a song from the album on their site called "redemption" which is pretty good
www.distortedband.com

Azazel, the first Viking Black Metal band in Israel(so they say),they're pretty cool, they have one LP called "Ride through the horizon",their singer(Asaf Enav) has a pretty high voice so when he growls he sounds a little like blackheim, he also has his own glam band called Crossfire, which does alot of Guns and Roses tribute concerts and do their job pretty well, besides they have their own material which is just as good. When Asaf does glam he sounds like Dan on Steel. www.azazel.org

Israeli metal in a nutshell, of course there are many more great bands here like Dissonant and Solitary and Abed, and most bands who appear under Israel in metal-archives

Here is more information and an interesting read, its a site from the United Kingdom-not U.S.

Many polls have shown that the populations of Islamic nations like Iran, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia and many others strongly supported the attacks against America on September 11, 2001. In their minds, the barbaric, savage tactics used in this and other acts of terrorism are justified in a battle they characterize as Islam versus Christianity and the Jewish nation. Christians are persecuted in these countries to the point of even being killed. Because Islam is a false religion that promotes a false god, it should be vigorously opposed by Christians in America and elsewhere. We should not be embracing Islam as another equal path to God. There is no path to salvation other than faith in Jesus Christ as our savior. All other paths lead to Hell like or not. For more information about why Islam should rightly be considered a spiritually dangerous false religion, see the answering-islam.org.uk web site.
actually if you like to preach your ideas here in music forum,i just donot care, but to attack others in this way, that is shit.
and i donot wander to see George Bush rule America another period, after seeing you.
and i donot care if you hate muslims,or not
but to lie, like this..this is rerally disgusting!!! ,but i want just to tell, that ALL your words is LIES,no christians persecuted here or even annoyed(to the point of even being killed)!!!!.and ALL practice their religions with total freedom .unlike the west (France) which prevent wearing viel for muslim women for example, and they know very much, that is an obligated thing from Allah (God).
you should know that Islam if obligate something, it obligate religion freedom for everyone, and say it very clearly, and if you want the proofs i can supply you with it,outside the forum.

First of all Christianity is not stupid(and I should know...I'm jewish)
religion is simply a set of rules to follow for a better life. It's fundamentalist and fanatics who use half truths and twisted interpetations to Holy books of for their personal agenda which makes religion seem pretty lame and even dangerous but Everyone is entitled to his own opinion on the subject and you shouldn't dismiss him because you don't agree.

As far as I'm concerned, a concept album about Creation(as oppose to Uncreation:headbang: ) is quite a good idea. Now giving it the Swano brothers touch and maybe a little Blackheim too and we got ourselves another classic.

p.s
sorry about this post, I just had to spreak my mind...
Featuring the vocals of:

Dan Swano - God
Mikael Akerfeldt - Satan
Blakkheim - Son of Satan

I could see that working out, lol.
