Defeated Sanity = best fuckin death metal band EVER

i guess i´m just too old for this. but if we can agree on that THIS is music, too, then i would say it´s just not my taste. :Smokedev:

Yeah of course you can say it's not your taste, it would be insane of me not to understand how you can not like a band like Defeated Sanity as much as I love this genre to death (pun haha). And yeah I can agree techno is music, I like it actually, a very very different approach to "music" as bands like Defeated Sanity, or Sunn 0)) or Mayhem or whatever but it's all still music.

I always like to find the "purpose" in every genre of music, to the point of saying I can enjoy pretty much any type of music, just some genres I won't ever get to listen often myself, but if it's played at a place I'm at I can find the cool part of it

me neither. sounds like some 4 year old children are discovering electric guitars to my ears....

And your band sounds like pop music to me.

yeah, and they recorded bass, drums and guitars live, afaik they used some sort of cheap
Zoom pedal into a Marshall for their guitar sound, I think that's the reason for the AMAZING sound :D
Just figured I'd fix that for you too ;D

I used to love this band when I first heard them. I haven't listened to them in about six years though haha

Only "Prelude to the Tragedy" was out at the time

Thank you! :tickled:

I´m an old guy. I can´t stand listen to the noise anymore. I like melodies and all this girlish stuff like singing notes and so on. ;)

And yes, of course, each music style has its fans so it has a right to be there and to be called music.

Old thread is old.

But, holy shit Chapters of Repugnance is awesome.
It's taken me some time to really get into it, note my orginal post in the thread :D

:puke: :OMG: :worship:

in that order/\

Same here. Now i don't like this kind of bands anymore (mostly due to boring vocals + boring technicality), except for Wormed which has a Cryptopsy gone totally sick kind of vibe, which i love.
A lot of current hyper technical death metal bands just sound boring to me. Just give me good riffs, catchy songs, emotions, the brootz, groove, fresh ideas, and creativity. Bands like Morbid Angel, Immolation, Cryptopsy, Obscenity, Aborted, Dying Fetus, Gojira, Monstrosity, have that on some of their albums. The technicity helps the song if needed, and are no technicity show-off wanking fest, like some bands do. The aforementioned bands just write killer songs, that's it.

There is no subgenre in metal IMO, just bands that rule cuz' they can write killer songs, and others that cannot write good songs.

END RANT

Is this music?? really??? Never understood these extreme styles that allot of people seems to dig around here... :D

I think the same as you.
One may be an extraordinary virtuoso but... what have you to say? Extreme speed and note accumulation takes the sound into a ball of noise.

I love music man. I respect all styles and anyone can make the music that he wants. The definition of music is... "the art of combine sounds and time".
So sometimes I get into doubt about the "art" word in that definition with some type of music.

It always bemuses me, when people who listen to metal, which in the eyes of the average listener is "a ball of noise".
Call other sub genres "just noise". It seems so obnoxious me.
Fair enough if you don't like something, you are perfectly entitled not to.
But I don't see why you would completely condemn it, when in most cases, you haven't really put the effort into understanding it in the first place.
Again, see my earlier post.

PUT SOME FUCKING EFFORT IN LADS

Also I am yet to meet someone who enjoys listening to music solely based on its technical merits.
If you think people do, then obviously you do not understand what those that like it, like about it.
Just because the aspect of a given piece of music that is most apparent to you is the technicality, then you assume that "they only like it because it's technical"

Who you think is "the best" is all a matter of your own music tastes and preferences. These guys sound like Blotted Science wannabes.

not doing much for me. Just not finding it very interesting.

Don't get me wrong, I love my death metal but this is just meh. Doesn't seem to be going anywhere meaningful, just one death metal gimmick after another.

Blotted science? now that's a comparison I wasn't expecting......

also....
Blotted science: formed 2005
Defeated Sanity: formed 1994

I don't understand why 90% of the Death production has to sound like shit.

Death production:
WAY over gained guitars that are scooped to the point where nobody can hear what is being played.
Some singer grunting as low as possible and some pig squeals.
Either a non resistant or pointless bass line/player.
Extreme drumming, but who cares you can't hear it very well anyhow because again the productions sucks.

That said if this falls into the Death category then count me as a fan. :D

Because 90% of death metal, nay, music is made up of shitty bands.

actually, i think the standard in death metal is quite a bit higher than for example deathcore or anything melodic death swedish type of stuff.
as for the production issues mentioned above, i'll have to disagree too. the vocal style is just part of the genre, and isn't supposed to be a form of singing, but it's actually more like another instrument that helps with creating the right atmosphere.
bass lines/shitty bass player, dude did you actually listen to defeated???? the bass player is SICK. most of them are....just think about it, many of them play with the fingers, try that at 240bpm upwards.
i've never had an issue with the drums being inaudible either.
gotta agree with the guitars though.

some great bands to check out (aside from defeated):
fleshgod apocalypse (especially the latest EP "mafia"), hour of penance, disavowed, emeth, deadborn (quite thrashy and easy to access, but i dig them), decrepit birth, (ok, not exactly brutal but technical at least), kronos (great band from france!), psycroptic, suffocate bastard

edit: also, ulcerate is one of the sickest bands i know.
