EDIT: That's actually kinda far behind, there's a really good book called Dialogue on Personal Identity and Immortality that's pretty awesome, though if you read too much stuff like it, it will probably drive you crazy eventually

Descartes frustrates me to no end. I almost wanted to throw his "Meditations" across the room after reading it. Im very much a skeptic of his conclusions still, especially towards the end of meditations where he basically states: "so then god=logic, am I right or what fellas?"
I have to balance out my philosophical reading with lighter genres at times, otherwise it really will drive me bonkers.

Ohh for sure, the first four or five meditation deal with questions of existence that very few (that Im aware of) had even touched upon up untill that point. As much as a I disagree with his some of his conclusions I cant deny his important contribution to the advancement of philosophy.

2-4. What have you provided of value to this whole argument? You are confused in thinking that I have fully subscribed to Rand's doctrine. When I have merely stated her relevance, and her brilliant domination of the english language as an author. I could totally respect it if you said "yea at a time I enjoyed her philosophy, now I believe it to be trite." But you go completely full circle and now claim for her to be a shitty writer. When just 2 years ago you were sucking the juice from her Siberian vagine. You make think as though you have accomplished a refutation. But having 6 dozen care crew members say "yea buddy you're so right, let's go smoke a bowl one day", is simply a display of homosexual laden online affection. I think we all on some level must be searching for some sort of enlightenment or higher understanding of ourselves and the universe, surely that is a gift of consciousness?

speaking as a grossly uneducated fellow, I left my very shit school at 15 already with a shit job and a verocious alcohol habit with the knowedge that I knew very little about anything much but that my ignorance wasn't stupidity.
I do have terrible problems conveying in words the contents of my head but I can generally see through bad literature.

but I'm a great believer in using automatic drawing/painting to open doors of the mind that aren't open during normal thinking

I guess you could say the same thing about seeing shapes in clouds or taking various drugs, it can of course be applied to music/sound as well

As someone prfessionally diagnosed with Attention Deficit, I myself understand that sometimes alternative means of education and understanding are the best ways to learn...despite surviving a drug-riddled AA and BA program I survived, and learned that conventional learning philosophies are not grueling.

Although I learned a lot in college, I have learned much more on my own.

actually, that part was between me and demilich and had nothing to do with the majority of this post. I neither agreed nor disagreed with either of you having no real interest in these topics. you expressed your point quite while sir. And I do something similar, though nowhere near your skill level. Just randomly doodle and tinker and screw around until i get an idea and suddenly I have an image of what I want and work towards it, and usually as I work, the image changes slightly, but in the end is mostly the same.
