Do the musicians maketh the band ?

The labels own the material iirc now that he is in jail. Least that is how I would think it to work (though Norway is wacky-go-crazy, so maybe not).

On topic: I have no idea what the musicians of most bands I listen to are doing and don't actively keep on the current events, so if they happened to do something I probably wouldn't know anyway.

That being said, if one of them goes to jail for child porn/whatever, I would probably only download the material. Wouldn't buy it.

Generally wouldn't affect my opinion of the music unless:
1. Music was borderline good / average. I could potentially just ignore them on the basis that it tips me towards average.
2. The band / member in question actually offended me personally, then regardless of how good the music is, I'd probably hold the grudge and not listen to it (one of the reasons I'd be hestitant meeting Danzig ... I worship him, but seldom hear good things about him from those who know him).
3. Their actions compromise something about their music.

It doesn't bother me. I'd still listen to Devourment if they actually did what they sing about. I wouldn't have a problem listening to a band made up of rapists (or even pedophile rapists for that matter). I obviously already do like a couple bands with members that are murderers (Burzum, Emperor, Dissection).

Mostly I'm only bothered about music - I don't like Black Metal anyway so that stuff isn't relevant to me. If one person in a band does something stupid, you can't hold the band responsible.
I'm thinking about Dave Holland - ex drummer for Judas Priest currently in jail for raping a young lad he was teaching to play drums. He was out of the band for about 15 years when convicted, and the band have distanced themselves from him.

Well, I can't personally stand any racially motivated Metal, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Other than that, depending on that, sometimes I can listen to "Anti" this or "Anti" that bands without having a problem.

As for actual crimes? Well, it's hard to think of things that don't really affect us personally. I can listen to Burzum without getting stabbed 17 times (more or less) and still enjoy the music. I suppose you could say it adds a "cult" factor to the music, but personally it doesn't affect me.

Then again, I don't listen to any bands regularly that are affiliated with crime, to my knowledge.

This is really stupid. How the fuck can you love the fact that this dude stabbed someone in the head? Idiot.

I prefer when the dudes in the band aren't murderers or rapists. That said, I still listen to Gorgoroth and Emperor, so...

Well... not everybody's a square. I.O.W. not everybody has traditional beliefs. I don't think murder is bad. I wouldn't mind the slightest bit if anyone I know, myself included, was murdered. And the fact that he's willing to follow through with the things he says and believes in adds legitimacy to him as a person.

There are laws of metal which must be followed :worship: these being outlined in Ed's Furry Guide to Metal!

All other acts should have no bearing on a band.

Enjoy!

Well, I can't really think of any band with extreme idealogy whose music I actually like(outside of Puissance perhaps, but they're not nazis). It did deter me from exploring the martial industrial genre in more detail, but since most of what I've heard from other bands in this genre comes off as insipid, copy and paste shite, the fact that they harbor extreme views is of no consequence to me anyway.

The only time this bugs me is if the band members do completely stupid things that contradict their music and feel the need to lie about everything, such as Kanwulf of Nargaroth. The fact that Kanwulf hasn't made anything I consider very interesting, let alone original in any way, also lends to my dislike of his music.
