I thought it would be fun if you're bored (I am :)) to come up with what would be your dream setlist. it can be for any band playing any concert, but a maximum of 3 hours and a minimum of 1 hour. Think about the order as well, to create the most kick ass gig ever!

DREAM THEATER LIVE IN ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA!!!

The Glass Prison
Overture 1928
Strange Deja Vu
This Dying Soul
A Mind Beside Itself
-Erotomania
-Voices
-The Silent Man

Take The Time
Beyond This Life
Stream Of Consciousness
Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence

------------
A Change Of Seasons

Led Zeppelin:

(Whatever the hell they felt like playing for 3 hours)...

Edit: ProgMetalPilgrim.... that is one hell of a setlist - the only thing it's missing is Metropolis. And I really like that you included Take the Time. That might be my favorite DT song, and it doesn't get enough recognition.

^ Yeah, there's plenty of other songs which could get included as well, but I think the band members would die trying to get through it all in one show! Take The Time doesn't get hardly any recognition, but yeah it's one of my favourites as well. The song is simply awesome! I wish they did play it live more often...

Yeah, you have to listen carefully, but he plays an awesome solo at the end.

In the live in Tokyo dvd (originally video, the one with the burning heart thingo) they do Take The Time, and it starts off with what they call 'Puppies On Acid' which became the intro to 'The Mirror', then Take The Time with an extended outro which has a full unbelievable soloing by Petrucci!

They've released that and the '5 years in a live time' both video's on one dvd with 2 discs. Check it out, it's pretty cool. Nowhere near as good as their latest couple of live dvd's, but you get some of their better earlier songs which don't appear on their later ones...

My dream set list?

Symphony X (my all-time favourite band who aren't planning to come to Australia yet :( :( :( )

Evolution- 5:20
Fallen/Transcendence - 6:30 (11:50)
Communion and the Oracle - 7:45 (19:35)
Egypt - 7:04 (26:39)
Death of Balance - 2:00 (28:39)
The Eyes of Medusa - 5:26 (34:05)
Through the Looking Glass - 14:00 (48:05)
Incantations of the Apprentice - 4:22 (52:27)
King of Terrors - 6:20 (58:47)
Awakenings - 8:21 (1:07:08)
Rediscovery (Part II) - 12:00 (1:19:08)
Of Sins and Shadows - 5:00 (1:24:08)
The Accolade - 9:51 (1:34:00)
The Divine Wings of Tragedy (best song in the world!!!) - 19:30 (1:53:30)

Give some time between songs and something of an interval/intermission and this would be the most AWESOME show ever running for a bit over 2 hours :D

Of course they'd be MORE than welcome to throw in some of their other stuff, I just listed my top favourites and stopped there because I thought I'd gone too long ;).

For Symphony X...
This would be the ideal setlist for them to play with a full symphony orchestra!

I don't know how often(if ever) DT stops near you in Australia, but living in Chicago we get to see them quite often, with multiple stops on virtually every tour. Therefore, although I would certainly attend a show with your setlist and enjoy every minute of it, I've seen all those songs, most multiple times, and would prefer to see an entirely different setlist, consisting of the following:

1. Status Seeker
2. Light Fuse and Get Away
3. Space-Dye Vest
4. You Not Me
5. Take Away My Pain
6. Anna Lee
7. Disappear
8. Blind Faith
9. Honor Thy Father
10. These Walls
11. Cover My Eyes
12. Speak to Me
13. Eve
14. The Way it Used to Be
15. Where Are You Now
16. Don't Look Past Me

Now seeing that show would tie up some loose ends... I think the beauty of DT is that they don't ignore any aspect of their catalog. They are true professionals in that regard, and because of that I have full confidence in seeing everything I have yet to see.

Van Halen playing their first six albums with the original lineup (eddie is sober and DLR popped a singing pill just before the gig).
If its over 3 hours (wouldn't be by much) they can ditch some covers starting with Pretty Woman and Dancing in the Street.

Dream Theater have NEVER been to Australia EVER, but on the recent G3 tour (with Petrucci) Portnoy mentioned they'd do Australia on their next world tour, probably towards the end of the year... We live in hope...
