embarrasing bands/artists you liked before getting into metal

I used to listen to strictly Alt. Rock with some mainstream metal stuff

Incubus, Taproot, Chevelle, Radiohead, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Linkin Park, Korn, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Pantera, Trust Company, Children of Bodom, Smile A Perfect Soul

Let's see, where do I begin?

Blink 182
Green Day
Hawthorne Heights
Nirvana
311
Taking Back Sunday
Silverstein
Rufio
Aiden
Avenged Sevenfold
Slipknot
Atreyu
Incubus

I dont find it embarassing as I still alot of the bands, but I was into stuff like Portishead, Elliott Smith, Joanna Newsom, Bjork, Slint, Neutral Milk Hotel, Radiohead etc. etc.

man you cant have been into metal very long

i prefer most of that stuff to metal anyway

Hell yes. Them, Minor Threat, and Rites of Spring.

fuck yeah, rites of spring = greatest emo band ever!

On thread topic, I used to listen to Nirvana obsessively, then pulled my head out of my ass and was big into other grunge. Early in my metal listening I loved Black Label Society and Damageplan, and now I listen to mainstreamish metal bands such as Carcass and Opeth and I am moving into lesser known stuff.

were you ever a fan of The Melvins?

Backstreet Boys
N'sync
A*Teens
Good Charlotte
Simple Plan
(insert random shit pop group)

I have no problem with any of the 90s alt. rock bands I used to listen to (and still do) before I liked metal, Our Lady Peace and Live are bands I still love, with OLP being one of my favorite bands still.

Because people think about "emo" kids, who listen to fall out boy.

Yes, but that doesn't excuse people from shunning a honestly good genre based upon the dolts that listen to bands that are not even part of the genre.

Kind of like my former dislike of all things indie.

I owned two Limp Bizkit albums several years ago, but I think half the reason was to fit in at school. I did find it kind of cool and 'rebellious' at the time though, before I had any musical identity basically. Iron Maiden changed that.

Well, I dunno about their older stuff with Max - but I haven't ventured into that because I owned a few of the newer albums with the other dude - all of which sucked.

Start venturing. Now.
