I got on the Enslaved Train really late in the game, picked up Below the Lights a few years ago and have been compiling other albums since. Before reading the Isa and Ruun threads I figured there would be a lot of animosity from chunks of you lot, since you know, those albums are actually
progressive but anyhow, I think they are all great. There are some moments of the two latest that are absolutely brilliant, but Below the Lights probably comes together better as a whole album. Monumension is quite incredible, but some stuff on it lags that was later mastered on Below.
I heard Vikingligr Veldi a few years ago and thought "meh," but I wasn't in the zone apparently, because I finally purchased that one (re-release along with Hordane's Land) just last week, and OH MY FUCK, that is some awesome shit! It sounded like Drudkh was heavily influenced by that one, and while I'm likely to prefer the newer shit from these dudes, what a strong debut. Should have been paying attention years ago.
The first song... that opening riff just reaks of something unnatural. . . .The opening track is crap and that first riff no joke literally pisses me off.
I agree, even if halfway through that first song it gets... okay. Everything else though:
Ah yes, I fail to see traces of post-rock in "Ruun". How do you people come to this conclusion?
Reading this thread for the first time right now is the first time I've even considered the comparison. I don't see it either, at all.
I don't get how anti Isa and Ruun most are around here. Pretty much everything by Enslaved kicks my ass.
I'm going to
to that. I have not heard Frost, Eld, Blodhemm, or Mardraum, but everything else, like I said:
So what can I expect from Enslaved live?
They ruled my face, a fucking lot.
bwaaaaaaaaaaahahahahhaa who needs Photochopped speedo pics with an expression like that?!
