Up and down opener from Germany. Ukraine definitely made them vunerable at points in the first half. Neuer had to make some legit saves and Boateng's clearance was exceptional. Germany's midfield kind of took over in the second half and dictated most the rest of the game. Bummed I'm gonna be working (and out of town, away from my DVR) for Germany Poland.

the best way to play germany and spain is basically the same: push high, counter attack down the wings, win as many set pieces as possible + throw in constant crosses.

i think spain should be favourites now, sadly.

OK can someone clarify the scoring system?

I had Dier in my starting 11 and got points for him. I then subbed him out after matchday 1 for a slovakian defender for todays matches. Now I'm looking at my matchday 1 points, and Dier's points have not been counted since he's on the bench?

I'm confused. And to add to that, I was only able to substitute the slovakian defender last night, I wasn't allowed to substitute any other player, including Mehmedi, my Swiss attacker. What the fuck.

when did you sub dier out? if it was after the portugal iceland game then you should've kept his points for matchday one.

there was a glitch in between gameweeks where you had to change your captain before you could do any subs, because uefa are retarded. the slovakian defender was a transfer rather than a sub, no?

I hate the format. So many filler teams in this tournament parking the bus because they know there's a chance to move on with a measly 3 points. And the big teams don't seem to motivated.

Now we have Germany, Spain, France, Italy, and England all on one side of the bracket. That other side is gonna serve up some suck ass games. Belgium and Croatia have a golden opportunity here, probably the best chance to win a major tournament they'll ever get.

yeah. i thought it'd be cool that every team has something to play for in the final round of group games, but it's clearly not working. there's also the problem that basically all the 'big' teams are lacking creativity or balance or something else though, a really strong team would've dealt with these defensive opponents.

the bracket thing is the result of england and spain fucking it up though, no fault of the organisers. honestly i don't think any of these teams are that great, croatia could well be as good as any of them. they made the semi finals in my pre-tournament predictions so i'm glad they're doing well.

Pretty crap games today. Wales and Nothern Ireland were both shit. Fitting it was won on an own goal (granted, it was a very nice cross by Bale). Portugal and Croatia were both WAY too conservative and sloppy.

Switzerland and Poland was the only decent game, with Shaquiri's goal being excellent.

yeah, today was piss poor. it's not been a great tournament tbh, although on the flipside it has been surprisingly competitive.
