Euro 2016 Fantasy League + Discussion Thread

notice how all the prem players missed (unless you count giaccherini). also you could tell in 90% of instances whether they'd score or not from their faces, as always - guessed almost all of them right (got schwein wrong and another iirc). amazing shootout anyway, i was laughing hysterically for half of it. zaza coming on to do THAT was incredible.

but yeah, the better team won. gotta go down as a good tactical call and a good performance from germany to adapt to that system and cancel italy's strengths out. gotta be the favourites now.

Zaza's penalty was one of the worst (and most hallarious) I've ever seen. I love that they brought him on just for his PK prowress.

Btw I take back what I said about Wales after their performance yesterday. They thoroughly outplayed Belgium.

And all these commentators lauding Zaza when he was subbed in "Zaza coming onto the pitch, he has never missed penalty before, he's a great specialist."

technically germany are the underdogs in the france game (or at least, france have been the favourites all tournament when i've checked)

i understood the anti-underdog mentality re: belgium but do you seriously think germany wales would be a worse game than germany portugal? have you watched portugal this euros? they've played some of the (on paper) shittest teams in the tournament and still haven't won a game, they're the ultimate spoilers and offer little offensively. by any objective measure you'd probably have to call wales the better team so far. i have a feeling portugal are gonna grind out a tight win vs. wales but i really hope not, i really don't wanna have to watch them against either germany or france. it's not like wales beat belgium by being 'plucky' either, they outplayed them. plenty of talent in that squad.

Eh, that's not the kind of underdog I mean. That's two world class teams playing each other. No one will be shocked by either team winning.

The rationale is I think either Germany or France would beat the shit out of Wales. I just don't think they have the talent to keep it competitve with France/Germany, unless the favorite is having an off game. Portgual have underperformed, but they have the talent to keep it interesting with France or Germany.

eh maybe. i think the fact that wales play much more like a cohesive confident team with an actual gameplan compensates for the difference in talent, which isn't particularly wide in the first place. portugal obviously have more squad depth but bale, ramsey and williams would walk into portugal's XI, and *maybe* davies/taylor and allen too.

Allen certainly not, Portugal's midfield is extremely strong. Sanches, Joao Moutinho, William Carvalho to name a few. What a pity Ramsey is suspended for the semi-final game, he's such a great player in this tournament.

Offtop: Ibra and Mkhitaryan are some serious additions to United squad. Can't see them not finishing top 4 this season.

yeah i suppose, allen's had a good tournament though.

yeah i'm super excited. we're getting hirving lozano too who's a quality mexican youngster, and we already bought bailly who should be smalling's partner. i wouldn't be surprised to see another full back and central midfielder come too.

I see you want Rojo out. Well, he was great at 2014 World Cup but then at United he showed none of what he was capable of. Again, now you have lots of unnecessary players who are just fillers sucking wages. Young, Valencia. We'll see what'll be with Mata, looks like hard times has come for him again under Mou.

mata will almost certainly leave, i think ibra's already taken his number lol. he's been linked with everton actually, as has schneiderlin - probably just talk but these days who knows?

i'd like herrera to stay but i don't know if he's jose's style. i assume bailly will be a first teamer given the money spent on him, so that probably means no place at CB for the likes of rojo, jones or blind. jose's apparently told young he's in his plans - tbf he's decent enough as a squad player, he's just limited and obviously not a full back. he can look very good in a certain kind of game. valencia's never been the same since that injury he suffered in the CL some years ago now, i think it'd be best to move him on.

I'm catching up, bitches.

Also, why do I have to be a filthy Man United fan now? It's all a cruel joke.

i blame ferguson for letting him go in the first place. i know he kicked up a bit of a fuss about not playing and that was never gonna sit well with fergie, but...... he had a right to kick up a fuss as fergie ignored him and stuck with that dogshit midfield time and again. one of the dumbest things he ever did methinks.

World becomes a better place when you realise Germany are out of the tournament. Yeah, France are the champions. Good for them, finally they didn't disappoint. Fuck Portugal.

Poor performance by Germany. Way too many missed chances, especially in the first half. Here's to Portugal pulling off the upset. Time for Ronaldo to get his international trophy.
