Fav' "heavy" bands

Since you like Spiral Architect I think that you would also like Theory in Practice

Love History has a bunch of singers and is a favorite

Death's Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic rule

Dark Tranquillity's Minds I and the Gallery also rule

Once again CARCASS!!!!!!!
These guys rule....
I'm gonna spin Heartwork right now!

You'd like Cynic shred, there are synth vocals on it too, but that's because Paul's throat was all messed up from singing Death metal all the time. See...it can hurt you if you don't do it right! ;)
They also have someone else though that does the vox most of the time and it is death style. Cynic is a mix of Melodic Death metal and Jazz / prog. It's very cool, the musicians are all excellent.

I downloaded some "Cynic, it fucking RULES!!!!! I've heard sean Malone a bunch of times in Gordian Knot, Aghora ect... but not his begginings. This is wicked. Yes, there are synth vocals like in Oxivious, but they aren't nearly as bad or artificial as Oxivous. Man, these guys can play their instruments! fuck, what have i been missing. The guitar solo's are wicked aswell, who des them -Peter or the other guy (I forgot his name)?

I watched the heavy shift late last night/early this morning on "channel v" (an ozzy MTV, but not as big) And i saw darkthrone. What shit, never heard such bad production and sound quality in my life! It was all show. The same two chords over and over again (I to VI in the harmonic scale) to try to give that "haunting" feeling. It wasn't actually very heavy as I couldn't haer most of it properly. The onl good thing was the speed of the drummers double-bass. There was also alot of shity hard-rock and industrial. But there was also some Maiden and Metalica (bad metalica). I also heard Cradle of Filth, it got pretty monotonous and repetitve very quick, and yes, i thought his screeches were cool at first. There was also this shitty death metal band which i forgot ther name of (I think it was some forign name like Berlurlia or something) the song was "co de le plama!!". there was some cool 7string riffs but the rest of the band was very simple and "Flat" sounding.

But have a guess who i was really, really, REALLY suprised with.... Stone Sour!!! I've heard about them being the singer from Slipknots other band, so i immediatly thought it was shit - but it wasn't. it had some cool riffs and guitar/bass harmonies. But what really got me was the solo. That guy shreds like a bitch!! really fast shreddage. he sweeped, string skipped and speed picked. I totally was shocked, i wasn't expecting that ata all.

Has anyone else heard Stone Sour, what do you think of that guitar player?

At the Gates is pretty good, Terminal Spirit Disease and Slaughter of the Soul are the best. The singer is really annoying though.
.

h..hh...hh...how...dare you.... (you are talkin to a MAJOR Tomas fanboy here... he is my favorite vocalist EVER)

hehe... but enough with that

Slaughter of the Soul is AWESOME.. at the gates is king

Naglfar rocks.. Sheol is amazing

Dimmu is damn good

Origin is awesome death metal

Nasum rules grind.

Opeth is also killer...

there are lots more.. too many to list :p

Well, ok, that's two against my ATG vocal bash. It sounds like someone straining too high and trying to be harsh at the same time, and at least on Spiritual, the reverb makes the vocals sound like crap. His voice is like cracking as he tries to make it harsh, its almost like the opposite of nu-metal vocals. They are cracking to sound like wussies, he is cracking because he is trying to sound deathly.
???

Anyway...
anyone ever hear Away by Kukumber? It is pretty funny.

I just got Steelbath by Soilwork. This is REALLY good stuff. Very heavy, thrashy and melodic. Is this typical melodic Death?

Yeah, dark tranquillity is good. Damage done or the Gallery are my recommendations there (the only two i have heard he he he).
I am surprised no one has mentioned the GOD himself, VINTERSORG!!! Go for the newest Borknagar album "Empiricism" and vintersorg sings on that, or get vintersorg's album "vision's from the spiril generator". Also, i just got into this band called Ephal Duath and they are black prog metal... fucking insane. Also, i can vouch for the berzerker having the worlds fastest drummer... he's fucking insane. If you want your head to be spinning, listen to them! By the way, to whoever recommended that (was it you manga??? To lazy to look) which is a better album... the berzerker or dissimulate?

ah, one last thing. I personally got into sinergy because of alexi (the God among men) but i like Kim's vocals. However, i greatly prefer Alexi's vocals because he's fuckin' badass... has anyone seen sinergy perform suicide by my side live when alexi growls the "Suicide" part of the chorus... i love that.

Oh, and Amon Amarth. the new album "versus the world" is bad fuckin' ass.

Here are my thoughts about some mp3's i've got of death metal,

Nile - Sucofogous : really cool how they slow it down and add really moody egyptian riffs, orchestration and choirs. My only problem is its too slow in the first 3/4 of the song. The main chuggah-chuggah-chuggah that starts at 3:30 is very cool. The last quater of the song is really good as it climaxes. Great drumming aswell.

Death - Symbolic, the vocals really irritate me. The high shrieks don't do much. But the music is really cool. The opening riff gave me a skew idea of what Death is about but then at 0:45, I really digged it. Great solo, drumming and technicallity. Cool.

In Flames - Episode 666: err... I don't know, this song was too tuka tuka tuka tuka, "happy" for me. Yeah, they have some cool twin leads, but it didn't do much for me. Mabey that is only this song.

Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done: I pefure this gothenburg band over the in flames song i got. Its not as cheezy i guess. I quite like it. Very melodic piano, symhonic parts that happen and some great some great riffs and twin-leads.

Cryptopsy - Phobophile - This is insane!!! Woah!! what drumming!!! some of the fastest shit i've ever heard!! extreeeeemily fast and technical. And the killer riffs. The solo is fucking awsomme aswell, super-shreddical. The sweep at '4:00' followed by the speed picking is one of the fastest licks I've heard (might even give Rusty Cooley a fright) SHIT!!!!! This is awwwwwwwwwwsome.

Get some songs from Sound of Perseverance by death... the vocals on that album are IMO the best... the older stuff is really irritating to me personally.
