I don't think Chuck Schuldiner was that overrated. He had a very unique style in his latter-day work that I have not heard displayed in very many death metal bands. I would say Trey Azagthoth was overrated, but I don't think any underground metal musicians are overrated. I save that term for all the crappy mainstream "musicians" that people idolize.

No Bill Steer? fuck you!

i will have to go to chuck, although trey is up there too, but heretic sucked .
p.s. muhammed of necrophagist is awesome as well.

what the fuck is fredrik thordental doing in that list? i love meshuggah and his solo album but come on, thats not even close to death metal.

Chuck should be winning by a mile. his solos aren't exactly works of art for the most part but the songs are fucking amazing. trey has nothing on him.

No he shouldn't be winning, he was good but not amazing.

i think hs solos are very tasteful, very melodic and memorable and that to me is a good thing.
And he had the "luck" of always having better guitarrists in his band to do the more tecnical solos.

Trey has a unique style, you listen to him, you know its him, and i do love his riffs and his crazy soloing. although erik rutan is always welcome to do some melodic soloing for contrast.

I prefer Trey Azagthoth cause I find Chuck Shuldiner to be a wee bit too melodic for me.

not saying he's bad, I like Death, but not as much as Morbid Angel.

This is just another one of those pointless stale done-over fucking threads. "cheddar vs provolone... swiss vs mozzarella..." etc
What it comes down to is that all of the above listed musicians have in one way or another influenced numerous people and made a good name for themselves due to their talent and hard work. Point fucking blank. There is no "best".

Paul fucking Masvidal you nitwits, though it's a shame Bill Steer isn't on the list.

i dunno man i like gouda and åseda gräddost myself though i will acknowledge that åseda gräddost's contribution to global cheese culture is marginal at best

My favorite wasn't listed; Rob Vigna from Immolation.

He has such a unique original style, and some of the best solos/leads I've heard in all of death metal (check parts in songs like the intro to "Christ's Cage" and the solo section in "Higher Coward"... fucking amazing stuff).

Thanks for pointing out such interesting information.
