A role model to mankind:
Some soundtracks I've purchased in the last couple of months or so:
A couple of John Barry (The Specialist, Swept from the sea, The Scarlet Letter, Mercury Rising, Day of the Locust, Man in the middle, etc.)
"Legends of the fall" by James Horner. Didn't sound that good on the first listen. I bought only for "Goodbyes" and had hoped there to be more of interest. I guess only time will tell. The film was superb IMO though!
"A beautiful mind" by James Horner as well. Much better and I've listened to that very much. Definetly worth buying and also seeing the film!
"Ararat" by Mychael Danna. I saw the film, thought it was okay (but not really worth paying money for), but the music sounded pretty good. I've only heard it once at the moment, but it sounded pretty good.
"The ninth gate" by Wojciech Kilar. He also composed the music for the "Dracula" film from '92. I really like this soundtrack. Spooky, mysterious and evil!
"Crouching tiger, hidden dragon" by Tan Dun. As I said previously I mainly like "Sorrow" and "Farewell" and I only bought it for that (it was around half price), but the rest sounded alright as well...
"Una casa en las afueras" by Alberto Iglesias. Not much to say about that. I have 6 of his soundtrack now, including this. I also just bought a double cd of his work from 1990-2000 called "Film works"
I have also bought two soundtrack of composers I badmouthed a bit earlier:
"Sleepy hollow" by Danny Elfman. Sounds pretty different than his cartoonish silly stuff.
"Schindler's list" by John Williams. Also sounds pretty different than his usually overly heroic shit that I find pretty gross.
