Favorite Opeth Guitar Solo

Hi people,

It seems as if you hadn't listened to Deliverance the CD. In this forum people are always talking about the first CDs and so... I do agree they're fucking great, and nearly for sure better than Deliverance, but why don't you listen to the Deliverance songs when they're clocking around the 8th minute?

In my opinion, all Opeth CDs have GREAT solos, but if I had to ick one up, that would be the one in White Cluster (SL).

Greetings

I think their A fair Judgement solo is immense and perfectly suits the song. I'd say this is there best solo overall but they all rule.

I'm going to go ahead and agree with everyone who said A Fair Judgement.

I was shocked and appalled that it didn't get mentioned until page 2. (maybe a slight exaggeration there)

That's a really hard question, because good solos are one thing that Opeth have in plentiful supply...

I'm going to go very broad here and go for all my favourite's

Forest of October (the main one)
Serenity Painted Death
The Leper Affinity
The Funeral Portrait (these fucking OWN)
Black Rose Immortal
The Twilight is My Robe
A Fair Judgement

My favourite... probably either the A Fair Judgement solos or The Funeral Portrait. I've milked the Forest solo of all it was worth with learning to play it for ages and I spose it will be the same deal with the Serenity ones.

It didnt get mentioned because the song wasnt even written yet. This thread started back in 2001. A month before I discovered Opeth at all.

Btw, my fav solos are the backing solo to BRI at 13:38 the end solos for Apostle in Truimph.

I absolutely LOVE the White Cluster solo.. it stands out to me because it's the culmination of a lot of build-up. From the moment the song goes quiet.. to the beginning of the solo, the intensity and.. suspense is perfect. Then the solo comes in and tears out your soul! :heh:

I like when the second guitar takes over and does that little bouncy-part. I REALLY wanted to see that on my video, but Peter played that part and the camera stayed on Mikael. Love it. To me, it's the climax of the album, SPD be damned
You took the words right out of my mouth man...the white cluster solo is easily my favorite but a very close second is the wreath solo

Deliverance 08:15-08:38. I love the part when the solo descends into the mellow part of the song.

My all time faves:
Judas Priest - Jawbreaker (I like KK's atonal melodies)
Metal Church - Beyond the black (The intro of the song always breaks my heart :))

Both the solos in A Fair Judgement
The first solo in deliverence (peters solo)
The Leper Affinity
All the solos in The Funeral Portrait and Serenity Painted Death
Bleak (Is there more than one in that song? I'm thinking about the one during clean)

hmm seems I'm quite into rescent soloing.
