favorite thrash metal band of all time

if METAL CHURCH doesn't count then I would have to go with early ANTHRAX
If we consider METAL CHURCH as thrash, that´s my pick but given the fact that, IMO, they aren´t thrash (no, Wyvern, I´m not trying to start again ),

Don't worry, I guess Metal Church like Meliah Rage have to be conidereded borderline bands. Depending on the listener view of what is thrash and what is power, both bands are in the dividing line.

As for them becoming death/thrash later, I always have understood that they become just thrash with heavy/critical anti-war lyrics.

Well, maybe it's just me.. but I feel a strong Death Metal vibe on Better off Dead/Tapping the Vein and even more so on Code Red and M-16. I haven't heard much from the other late releases but when I saw them live in '06 I think they had a lot of Death Metal moments going on.. but of course it could be like the whole Metal Church debate you guys have got going. It's all opinion.

Oh yeah-- Vendetta and Infernäl Mäjesty belong in my pile of 'bands that released one or two awesome albums and then split up' (or maybe IM never disbanded.. I dunno.. but they didn't release anything for over a decade)

Ditto on the Metal Church. I think they could be considered thrash or powermetal. "Blessing in Disguise" was a freaking monster release. I am not typically big on remasters, but THAT one needs it. I would love to hear that release with better production/mixing. Had Powermad hung around a little longer, I might have been putting their name up here as well because "Absolute Power" was about as good as it gets.

Metallica or Megadeth

Actually, add Metal Church with Mike Howe too. And early Deliverance. Their first 2 records were awesome. Like if Ryche and Tallica wrote a disc together.

Ha ha ha.... we had this same discussion here many times and it started years ago. Metal Church should have been freaking millionaires like Metallica. The vocals (especially with Howe) were above and beyond anything Metallica and Hetfield could even have a wet dream about.

I'll try Metal Church and Deliverance. One album by each. Recs? PM me if you don't want to further derail the thread.

basically I'm asking which are the best albums by each band. But only one album by each band not a couple of albums. I want to buy one album by each band. K?

I think he means that he's going to buy an album each by Metal Church and Deliverance and would like us to recommend something. If I assume correctly, I would like to derail the thread slightly and recommend the debut or the Dark by Metal Church..

To rerail: What about Nuclear Assault? I only have Game Over, The Plague, Survive and Handle with Care.. but those are all quality releases IMO. Have they released anything else of value, and if so - don't they deserve to be mentioned?

Edit: Too slow :)

Ha ha ha, I am sorry dude !! I wasn't trying to be rude. I just really wasn't following you.

I can't give you the Deliverance recommendation, but as far as Metal Church, it is definitely "Blessing in Disguise." It is a masterpiece.

Don't know Deliverance enough (that's the Christian band?).

As for Metal Church I'm always with Bryant on this one, we love the Howe era. So I'll recommend to start with "Bleesing In Disguise", if you really like it then try "The Dark" with the previous vocalist, if you finally dig that one too, then you're free to go with the rest of the stuff from the debut up to and including "Masterpeace".
I don't like at all the band after that and as a matter of fact to me they're not Metal Church, just Vanderhoof band by a better known moniker.

anybody heard reverend's material? They had a couple with ex-metal church singer david wayne. That is some great stuff, like metal church meets testament.

I simply have to say mine would either be Forced Entry or Nevermore! These bands rocked harder than most earthquakes!Shoot,Nevermore are still around making things happen!I've also gotta mention the extra long lives of Megadeth and Slayer....some bands will NEVER die!!!:heh:

I'll agree with Bryant, get Blessing in Disguise by Metal Church. Best album Metallica never wrote.

In Terms of Deliverance, get either Weapons of Our Warfare or their Self Titled (The former is much better, although both are good).

Weapons (the song) got quite a bit of MTV play back in the day. They're vocalist is fantastic too, Hetfield snarl with Geoff Tate highs.

Weapons also featured George Ochoa on guitar, who had just left from a band called Recon who sound remarkably close to Queensryche, only thrashier - highly recommend them too.

Also, JAGE, really cool to see Pariah in your sig, I should add them to my list of fave thrash - I love that album!
