First Ever Possible UM Trade Day

MP3 CD basically means you can fit a few albums and works in most CD players, Audio CD works in all players but you can fit maybe two albums if they're like 35-37 min each or less :p

I say Audio CD...as a mixtape kinda thing, not just like an entire collection of black metal...that'd be lame. 2-3 songs per artist max?

I'd like to be paired with one of the more knowledgeable members of UM. I don't have much to offer in the way of obscure metal, but I can be decent in the non-metal part. I'd like to find some new music, and I'm fine with any genre.

Why don't we let each pair work out whether or not they want to know what bands they are being sent or if they want to know what they are before they listen? That way everyone is happy and we can get this thing moving. I personally will listen to everything that my partner sends me no exceptions. I also agree keeping Europeans with Europeans and North Americans with North Americas in order to save some shipping costs.

In response to Evil about CD length: I am planning on filling a CD-R completely which is usually ~20 songs depending on length.

I'm actually getting excited about this. Alter if you need any help organizing this I'd be willing to assist.

Maybe if Alter would show up again we could actually get going...

I don't have any CD players that will play MP3s. That's why I would prefer an audio CD. Also, if there is too much, it could seem to become a burden to listen to. I have a cassette player in my car, so I wouldn't even mind trading tapes, but I know that isn't realistic.

To be honest I doubt I'd get around to buying some more CD-Rs and sending something in the mail, but I'll still make a mixtape available and upload it online for anyone who'd want to listen to it, or check out someting new.

ACK, you need to get Awake by DT. That album has the best production, is the most easily accessible, has their best songwriting(IMO), & is somewhat less progressive than most of their other works. It's actually my favorite, with Scenes From a Memory being an extremely close 2nd. SFaM takes way more patience however, & you don't seem to have any of that.

Yes, we need to send 80 minute CD-Rs. An MP3 CD would take a lot more work to compile, would be harder to listen to to get the full effect, & they don't play in a shitload of CD players TBQFH. I also think the e-mailing thing sucks. Everyone needs to write down what songs are on the CD on a piece of paper or something though, because we need to know what we're listening to.

It's too bad Muxtape got shut down two months ago, that would have been perfect for this kind of thing.

Don't think I could be bothered with snail mailing anything to be honest.

Yeah, even though I do not really like Ozzman he said it would be a good idea for me to get help with this. Therefore, Ozzman if you want to help with this please do.

I am obviously going to pick the people at random but, if say, I get V5 and Dodens, I might change that pair because they might share similar taste after I review their last-fms or RYM accounts. That is just a theoretical situation, but do you get what I am saying?

I would say compile all the people into a list and send it to me. I will do the random number generation and then I can send you the spreadsheet with the numbers in it just to have a second pair of eyes confirm it. Problem with the =randbetween function is that everytime you 'refresh', so to speak, the numbers change. I have an idea to circumvent that little issue, though.

We can change pairings if necessary.

I found some websites that generate random numbers in a sequence (meaning it will only use each number once). That seems like the best option. I'll just import those numbers into Excel and go from there

Why are we even picking at random anyway? I personally think people should be allowed to agree to do this with whoever they want. I'm not enthusiastic about having to get randomly paired with someone who listens to entirely music I'm not interested in.

Precisely why we can adjust the pairings...

edit: Seriously, you and Dodens trade music anyways... what's the point if you're not going to hear new music?
I think most of you are missing the purpose of this exercise.
