First Ever Possible UM Trade Day

Dream Theater fails are being good, aside from that song and A Change of Seasons.

Anyways, we should stop bickering about specifics and just start attaching numbers to names and then using a random number picker pair them off.

I suggest using the random number generator function in Excel.

=randbetween(1,x) [with 'x' being the HALF number of people participating] and copy that down the column of names, then repeat in another column and the two people who get the same number are paired up

Under a Glass Moon! :headbang:

EDIT: On topic, I really think we should have this an on-line trade like Evil? said on the second page. Actually sending mix CDs would cost more than just hosting them.

Well yeah Pull Me Under isn't representative, because it's one of their less progressive songs, and certainly not one of their best. Try appreciating them for what they're good at.

Apparently I don't like what they are good at. I said I have tried more than once to get into them. Listening to an entire DT album ends up feeling much more like a chore than something I am enjoying.

I hate when listening to an album feels like a chore.

I'd do this but as someone said it prolly makes sense pairing EU people with other EU people etc.

If you haven't yet, listen to "Fatal Tragedy" off of Scenes From a Memory. That one packs a punch, and is one of the songs that originally got me into them.

If neither that nor some of the highlights of Images and Words can get you hooked, it's probably hopeless.

Problem for me is that I may enjoy a song while listening to a DT album, but invariable they start playing some sap-fest of a ballad or some other rock and rolly crap that annoys me no end. I will see if I can listen to that song, but I am almost 100% sure that regardless of I think of it, I will not own a DT album. For me, I listen to albums, not songs. Even to a fault. If an album has too much that annoys me, I will not own it. Thus I own no Dream Theater.

Have you never sent a package internationally? It's very simple, pretty much just an extra form to fill out.

A lot of you are making this a lot harder than it needs to be. Pick the songs and make the mix that you think is best and then send it away. Lets start pairing up people ASAP.

I've sent plenty of stuff, it's just in my experience from other forums transatlantic trading/secret santa shit normally fails way more often.

Okay, that would explain it. DT can definitely have widely-varying moods within an album, and most of their (numerous) ballads really are terrible. They do require a stomach for diversity, and there are a few albums that are free from crappy songs imo.

Also, song lists should only be given to people when they receive the mix or after they listen to it?

I say after. It'd be cooler if people could listen to the mix without any preconceived notions based on the band or song titles.

I think everyone needs to listen to this guy. Don't fag Alter's idea up by turning this thread into some ridiculous holier-than-thou pissing contest.

Why don't we let each pair work out whether or not they want to know what bands they are being sent or if they want to know what they are before they listen? That way everyone is happy and we can get this thing moving. I personally will listen to everything that my partner sends me no exceptions. I also agree keeping Europeans with Europeans and North Americans with North Americas in order to save some shipping costs.

In response to Evil about CD length: I am planning on filling a CD-R completely which is usually ~20 songs depending on length.

I'm actually getting excited about this. Alter if you need any help organizing this I'd be willing to assist.

Looking like a good lineup here. I'll weed out shit posts later on and we can get this rolling. Sorry about doing my part to clog this thread up with dumb shit. Sorry Jenn :)
