Flatline Audio Robbed

Thanks for the kind words everyone. No leads so far but I'm not giving up yet. I'm checking ebay and Craig's list every day and have some friends doing the same. I don't really expect to recover anything but I'll keep on trying.

The insurance thing is defiantly a lesson learned. I've looked into it in the past, even got quotes, just never pulled the trigger. I'll be regretting that for a while...

I left the studio Friday evening or the weekend and got the call from the police Sunday night. I went down to survey the loss and slept the night on the couch with my Walther P99 close by. I wish the mother fuckers would have come back. I'd have their heads mounted above my workstation right now. I spent the next day moving everything out of the building and Tuesday piecing together a temporary setup. I picked up a Firepod and put together a computer out of spare parts (Athlon XP2200, no fun after a dual Opteron)

A week ago I ordered a pair of these DIY reference monitors and I'm actually pretty impressed. I originally ordered them for home use but the timing worked out. I put them together last night and paired them with a old receiver I had. I used them today for reamping and mixing and they worked pretty well. The 6.5 woofers cant push the low end like the HR824s so I had to be careful not to over do the bottom. We had to track yesterday on headphones and crappy computer speakers :Puke: .

Sample

The band isn't so hot and the drummers sub-par (plus no time or editing) but I think tones turned out well for a new interface, converters, preamps, and monitors. Super quick and cheap demo, 4 songs, 2 days, 16 hours.

Anyways, kinda got of topic there. Thanks again for all the support and please let me know i you hear anything.

PS - I'll be selling the Firepod within a month or two. If anyone is interested in a new interface with very light use get in touch. dave@hellionstudios.com

This is a terrible thing to happen to anyone dave.... i feel for you dude. :waah: Whats more, the cops are damn useless normally at least over here, so all you can do is keep your eyes open big style and hope. The reward is a great idea. Asshole burglars need money so bad of course they're going to turn their mates in if they can get 1000 bucks.

I now subscribe to the Tony Martin theory of shoot on site.

yep, same here Andy. Something tells me you may have caught that program the other nite on it lol :p . It just freaks me out how the criminals broke into his house, and even the 2 who survived got less time than a man who was protecting his own home... damn i hate our law syste. Public vote i say!! :Shedevil: I'd shoot some assholes down any day of the week someone invaded my home, and they get 10 shots and a rolling pin round the head if they snuck in my room and made an attempt to make off with my ibby.

I'm trying to find decent insurance for my home studio. In the UK it seems hard to find anyone who will deal with non-pro businesses and just give me contents insurance, they all want me to get public liability as well even though I won't be allow the public in!! (I will however get a waiver signed by anyone who comes in just to cover my ass).

Mate, I insured some of my equipment (over £10000 worth) with a company called music guard. I think theitr website is www.musicguard.co.uk. I'm paying around £18 a month, direct debit from my account so I don't even have to think about it. And those £18 (which buy about 4 pints anywhere in town these days) are totally worth it because I'm no longer panicking about leaving the studio.

I really liked the people in music guard, they always got the phone very quickly and didn't mind explaining all the smallprint over and over again. Quite friendly.

No way back for me. It makes a lot of sense.

still have shot guns in the uk, next best thing to a potato gun

The law in this country is SO against victims. But, I heard that you can now kill bulglars in your property! (which is not a very pretty scenario but hey, better than spending 30 years in prision because someone was trying to kill you/steal your potato gun in your own house.

I grew up in Colombia (south america). Things are very different there, quite more complex, but I still think the English law is very kind towards the bad guys.

i feel terrible that this thread exists, but being the optimistic person I am; I just wanna mention that I am thrilled to see that you just kept on going with business and didn't let it affect your status. it is going to be rough for a while, but unfortunately sometimes you have to go through some serious shit to learn a serious lesson. we all learn together: insurance is mandatory.

Hey same here (Italy), if you kill someone in your property that risks your life, it's not a crime anymore. Now you got the right to defend yourself even killing the robber, but this time the criminal won't think twice before killing you. I don't know if it will be better now with all these robbers thinking about saving their asses because of this far west scenario.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation Dave. I hope you get some things back.

That said, I think you cannot kill someone because he's trying to steal something. I don't know if people were serious about that, but in case they were: WTF??

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I don't think having a gun around is very smart. I have had robbers in my room, next to my bed actually, and it didn't change my mind. If you want to feel more safe, I guess having a dog to scare robbers away is propably a better option than betting on a nasty shootout. I don't agree with the DIY judge/jury/executioner approach. Self defense is very different from killing someone because he's stealing your stuff.
Besides, what you get is people shooting and killing family members, mistaking them for robbers. I don't trust myself to think straight within the first 30 seconds after waking up in the middle of the night.

Not trying to upset anyone by the way.

Just to make a clarification, it's not a crime just if the robber is risking your life, say it's a self defence...
You can't kill people just beacuse they're stealing your stuff....

Knew it wouldn't be too long before the gun debate comments came along. I'm not gonna feed the fire, but I will say that I own 4 guns and I can shoot really, really well.

I'm not a bad shot either. Tricky one the whole gun debate, but I do believe in defending your own property.

I totally agree with you, man. Over on this side of the pond, most states have laws making it illegal to defend your property (outside of the home), but the funny thing is that even most cops think that it's a total crock.

I pistol-whipped (with a .30-.30 Marlin lever action rifle :heh: ) a guy that I caught breaking into my truck last year and after the cops informed me that it was illegal to defend my property, they basically coached me on what to write on the report to justify my actions. Theives don't learn from a mere slap on the wrist.

Not to get way too far off of the subject, but do you hunt Andy? I figure with all of that sweet land you got there, there must be some fat pheasants or something running around.

it's mostly sheep on Andy's land and i don't think he's the hunting type.... unless its criminals trying to steal his gear. the only hunters i saw around his place were the resident predators, Milo and La La.

If it's so wrong to eat babies, then why do they taste SO GOOD? :heh:

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming:

That is terrible news about the robbery, but the important thing is that you're still rockin'. Two of the biggest things that separate serious engineers from the rest of society at large are huge reserves of determination and persistence, and you've got both in spades. Best of luck to you.
