France Bans Burka/Niqab

is this seriously going to turn into a "hate on the christian kid" kind of thread again??? i just wanted to see what you fellas thought of the ban. so far, 3 posts and non of them really say how you feel about ti.

Fucking word, honestly - acceptance and tolerance and blah blah blah are all well and good, but besides the blatant oppression on women that these clothes signify, when these people are living in a country, there is (or should be) a need for them to at least somewhat assimilate, and that author hit the nail on the head when she said that the burka and niqab are "a barrier to integration, a statement of hostility to the host country." Sorry, but if you don't want to "imitate Kuffars" in any way, then GTFO.

Fuck yeah to the French for having values and sticking by them, political correctness be damned

The "dude" you agree with is actually a chick

It's a very difficult topic imho, and it's not quite as simple as she states it. Men forcing their women to wear a burka is totally unacceptable of course, and we (society) should not support that. On the other hand, I feel like governments shouldn't interfere on a personal level so deeply as to dictate them what to wear.. because then they're forced to wear certain things again - this time by the government - and I bet there are women who freely chose to wear a burka (even if it is beyond my understanding).
For some of us, the burka is a sign of suppression of women's and human rights and a sign of unwillingness to integrate in our western society.. but as I said, I don't believe it is that simple. It can be a sign of deep religiousness, even a sign of personal freedom and defence, a cultural debris or simply as an attempt to preserve a small part of their original culture. Heck, christians are allowed to wear a stupid crucifix around their neck.. why shouldn't "they" be allowed to show their religion. (damn christians!)

Personally (!) I think people should accept they can't cover their faces (and all of their body) in western cultures.. If I moved to a foreign country I would try to accept their culture and conform to their laws and customs. But I guess it's no easy process, especially if you never learnt the language and don't have a lot to do with the actual people because you're locked at home :/

I agree with pretty much all of this. Particularly that government shouldn't control people's clothing.

What if covering your face was some part of metal culture? We'd all be up in arms going on about personal freedoms.

What's the best way to respond to a human rights infringement?

With another human rights infringement of course!
Hell yeah

Seriously though (not pointed at you, I just loved your comment), the problem is not the burka but them not learning the language of the country they live in because of their shit husbands.. you gotta start treating the origin of the problem, not the symptoms. (-> education, language courses, teaching them our values.. not banning their cloth and finally their whole religion)

I need to check my Koran at home to make sure, but I am pretty certain it does not say anything about women wearing burkas.

As for women covering up in public I think it is great because then social workers can't see their bruises.
