Friend getting into DM, recommend me the ideal newbie starter suite.

Title is fairly clear. What I'm looking for is pretty much just those lists people always toss at new posters with shit taste, with a few exceptions:

-My friend likes a fair amount of the modern DM I listen to and doesn't need to be "eased in" to brutality or growls.

-It doesn't need to be CLASSIC, but lets not use this as an excuse to show off our KVLT underground faves, I'm looking for essentials

Also I know there are a shitton of ESSENTIAL DM RECORDS! lists floating around on the web (and various other threads for that matter). The reason I'm making this thread rather than just using those/my own knowledge is that I want the material I present him to be broader than just my personal tastes, but I also want to keep it concise, not chalk up every single release from the 80s as must-have material.

Also note the "DEATH" in the title. Not metal in general.
