I honestly don't care about Metallica past or present so my opinion is moot and biased on the fact that I never liked them.. Never liked them and never cared...Would much rather listen to Slayer then any of their albums.

They always sucked live. The number of bootlegs circa '86 that I've heard that kick in with James playing Battery a million times faster than on the album but then having to slow down for Cliff, Lars and Kirk... it's a joke.

Me and my mates have had this discussion: had Metallica had Tom Hunting, Jason Newsted and a guitarist who could actually play and/or write a riff they might have been a force to be reckoned with.

I agree with everything except Jason. Jason is an awesome player - the first Flotsam and Jetsam CD is so fast and cheesy I blew my load twice when I heard it. But if there was ever a member of Metallica who needed no replacing, it was Cliff.

Okay, right, so I worded that wrong.:Spin: I think everyone knows what I meant!! Had he not passed on, he would have never needed replacing - unless he left. I doubt they would have ever kicked him out. I remember James saying he was the most influential and musicaly talented person he had ever knows. They even said Cliff wrote the entire second half of Orion (guitars and all). Oh Cliff, at least you are probably in a better place. Rocking out with Dime and Keith Moon.

I tend to make my disdain for Cliff's playing pretty clear. Pulling Teeth, Call of Ktulu and Orion - just so pointless and lame.

I just think it's a shame that Jason went from Doomsday to ... AJFA. It's like getting out of a Bentley and getting into a Fiat.

I saw them live in the early '90s and they were awfull. James sucked, Jason sang half the songs and it was just a noise fest. Thier sound man must been smoking crack that night cause you could hardly make out what song they were playing.
