Gaming Thread

The quen sign is SUPER useful.

It's what trivializes the game and makes the majority of the other signs pointless in comparison. That's what pissed me off the most about that game. It was really good, but the skill trees were so out of whack thanks to Quen. The only other sign that is ever useful (occasionally) is Aard, but you didn't need to even put points into it. You could make a pretty decent Igni build, but it required very specific gear that did not drop until way late into the game.

Just put points into the sword tree so that you can hit multiple enemies with one swipe, deal more damage, and have more health. Getting Heliotrope from the magic tree is pretty cool, but you have to invest in quite a bit of "filler" on the way up to it. Here's a build you really can't go wrong with:

Vigor regen
Hardiness
Parrying
Fortitude

Riposte
Feetwork
Violence
Whirl
Tough Guy
Finesse
Invincible
Combat Acumen
Whirlwind

Destructive Magic
Venting
Quen (3)
Magic Intensification
Magical Vigor
Magical Sense

Mutating skills is of the utmost importance.

Yes, put all your shit into sword combat. Fuck the potion and magic skills...the sword skills are what make the game awesome.

Just to give you a run-down, Witchers are like bounty hunters-meet-kingslayers-meet-monster hunters-meet-bodyguards...they do everything for money and are beholden to no king or creed. They are neither good nor bad...they are badass mutants who you don't want to fuck with. Have one on your side and you can pretty much rule whomever you want. Have one against you and you're all but dead already. They are tormented souls due to the painful process they must endure to become a Witcher...those who survive, that is. The magic they use is less nuke magic and more assist magic; this is why you wanna put all your skills into swordplay....it's what they're known for. Putting it all into magic is like giving a jedi a blaster instead of a lightsaber.

Both are equally great. Play it twice, trust me...this isn't like Deus Ex or something where you just have different cutscenes. The entire game changes...areas, storylines, everything.

Since it saves all your savegames, just re-start at the fork in the road and play from there so you don't have to go through the first ten hours again.

It's kind of lame how every game tries to be unique putting a twist of fantasy races and only Planescape: Torment really did it an interesting way. I wish they'd make a game with classic D and D style races and archypes (Dark Elves are actually evil like Everquest), but without that awful DnD approach to story and lore. Story done by Obsidian or something, with lots of fucking classes to choose from that are completely unique like an MMO. With an art style like Skyrim and an amount of lore and quest like Morrowind, with the brutality of The Witcher 2. Open world and shit.

Someone should do old school true to the original race and class archetypes and if they got the writing and presentation correct, they couldn't go wrong because no one has fucking done it right in the last few generations.

The demo for Dragon's Dogma is out. I've only played it once so far, and I'm not sure if I like it or not. It just doesn't seem like Capcom has learned how to make a fluid action type game that's not the DMC series. The controls just feel way too tank like, as though they were aiming for Demon's Souls, but ended up with RE5 with a jump.
