Gareth was right

I don't know but I think that arrogance is actually a sign of personal insecurity. To know what you can pull off and what you're good at isn't beeing a smug. Problem is: That's not what Joey is doing. He's acting like an ass.

I always saw him as a pretty cool guy having troubles to express himself through writing but maybe that's just me.

So what are the chances that JS pops in here to comment? Surprised he hasn't already.

He got his own subforum here on UM, just because many of us on AS subforum were sick and tired of all the drama...

I expect him to cool down and use his own part of the forum for resolving such problems.

It must be pretty tough in his position though. He's constantly between a rock and a hard place. You know, on one side you're getting dragged down by the people who are fans of your work; all they want to do is rip off your style, and not even remotely try to learn anything about the art of mixing/engineering. All the while, thanks to these little ingrates, you lose all respect from your piers and contemporaries, because of the stigma that is now attached to you for creating a niche sound that is forever synonymous with the hipster pricks.

Doesn't look like he posts to often over there either. Its funny how it seems like as soon as he was given his own subforum he dropped off the face of the interwebz.

Honestly it was mostly just to get the Sturgis-core fags off this forum. At least that was why I was for it. This place was littered daily with people signing up and their first post was asking about Sturgis PODfarm presets, tips on how to recreate Sturgis' Slate Drums sounds, etc. They only signed up to ask shit about him and his work... on the Andy Sneap forum. It only made sense for him to get his own forum so they could do that same shit but it would be in the proper place. I don't blame him for not visiting his own forum very often, or at least not talking on there much... I wouldn't either when it's nothing but/mostly people going "gimme, gimme, gimme."

As for the topic, I think the post could have been worded much differently to get the same message across but in a more professional manner. However, he does put up with a shitload of people poking at him quite frequently, and I can understand his frustration and then needing to voice it.

The thing I have noticed is so many people have said that because he is famous, by that I mean at least amongst other AE's/producers/bands/whatnot, basically he needs to get over it and be more thick skinned. Really easy to say that when 98% of those people saying it aren't famous, never were famous and/or never will be famous. When you are the person going through whatever he is going through and you handle it better, then say something. Until then... learn how to put yourself in the person's shoes even though you have no idea, personally, what it's really like.

TL;DR : fucking pancakes.

Guys you should stop hating on Sturgis he is a strong man and you should become as famous as him before you say anything ok, stop being haterz

His UM forum is totally dead these days, all the discussion about him is on the facebook group now.

That's the impression I got.

Although as long as that forum stays up and keeps all those first-time-posters away from here, I'll be happy. The creation of that board just about cleaned this place up overnight, and it'd be good to keep it that way.

Why on earth didn't he hire an accountant (other than at tax time)?

i was under the impression that his manager guy from rise records was/is the one doing all the booking and taking all the payments...maybe he hasn't been fulfilling his duties? that, or maybe he got busted for all the money he made before hiring management? either way, it seems like publicly offering to work under the table to make un-taxed money to pay the IRS seems like a fucking terrible idea to me!

FACT

the Joey Sturgis forum was actually started by me on my own server so we could get all the little PodFarm preset bitches off this forum. Joey cried foul and got his own forum on here after realizing it was a brilliant idea. So ill take credit where credit is due .....

As for his rant and blow up, Who the fuck cares really?

Does the guy do quality work? Does he do what he needs to do to pay his own bills?

Ok then shut the fuck up.

to all of the shit talking that happens.

Most guys here are too young/new to remember when Sneap would occasionally get trolled here by guys who said he was ruining music by over-editing. It happened and Sneap defended himself although with more grace than Joey does.

That's hilarious considering how natural Andy's recent tracking/editing is compared to 90% of modern metal that is recorded today.

Seriously! What's with all the hate? It takes an insane amount of skill to master the art of the POD and auto-tune.

PS - if you want to sound like Joey, I'm selling my POD X3 w/ the Joey Patch on it already. Instant record label deal for you since you'll be all set to go with tact.

Jealousy is a stinky cologne.
